Not sure how to respond.

Here is the situation.

I saw an item on another bulletin board that I was interested in. The fellow had a price on the item. I emailed him found out the item was still available. Asked if he would pay for shipping. He indicates that he wants his price and that shipping is $15.00 extra.

OK, so I give him his price and add the $15 to boot.

Once the item is shipped, headed my way, he sends me an email telling me that item has been shipped and oh, by the way, shipping was actually $20. Would I send him a check for the additional $5.00.

I am conflicted here. The man got his asking price for the item and I paid him the amount he wanted for the shipping. Don't know that I feel obligated to kick-in the additional $5.00. That said, am not looking to cheat the guy but If I were in his shoes, I would just eat the $5.00 and call it even. I got my asking price.

Thoughts?

If I were the seller I'd eat the shipping as it's the right thing to do. As the buyer I'd pay the 5 bucks and send a note that the seller is a cheap horses' a$$.

Here is the ACTUAL situation. 1.) He asked AND received his asking price with shipping included at the price he asked. 2.) You gave him EXACTLY what he wanted. 3.) He SHOULD never have said anything! 4.) But he did! Now BOTH legally and ethically YOU don't need to do anything! However, 5.) The reason it "bothers" you maybe the fact that you are the type of person to go beyond what is expected of you! T-Rust me, I know that "feeling".. So, unless you just don't have the money or want to stick to a principled stance, go ahead and pay the $5.00 more. If it were me, that's what I would do.. Let him have a conscience (if he has one) about asking for money BEYOND what he asked for. $5.00 is not worth "being bothered"..

A higher standard. ++

Giving him the other five bucks is NOT doing him any favors. He needs to learn not to lowball or underestimate the shipping. Do him the honor of teaching him that lesson. He'll be better off and so will you.

Me? I'd send him $5 and move on.. When I sell i state my price plus actual shipping.. After I ship I email the recipient the cost. Never had a [problem yet.

And in the future make your own decisions..

Tough call.

Since the guy is counting pennies, after he made a commitment, it is obvious that numbers and details matter to him.

So I'm sure that he'd understand if you sent him his extra five dollars, minus the additional costs of postage and envelope that you will now incur, above and beyond what it cost you to send your first check for the amount that he agreed to. :cool:

Seriously, over five bucks? If I was selling, and I made a deal that netted me my asking (and agreed to price), plus the postage that I as a seller had requested, I'd just ship the package and shut up. The pettiness of asking for that five bucks wouldn't be worth jeopardizing my opportunity to sell anything on that forum again after guys heard about it.

I wouldn't even respond but if I did it would be with a $5 gift card to Toys-R-Us.
The first pistol I sold I estimated and asked for $25 shipping. I knew nothing about rules for shipping a pistol. I ate the additional $40 that it actually cost me to overnight it Fedex.

Send the Guy the extra $5.00 and be done with!! Don't stoop to his level. If the item would have been $5.00 or $10.00 higher, would you have still bought it?? There is such a thing as "feedback". Forget the "minus" the additional postage and envelope crap. Again, send him the extra $5.00 and be done. It's ONLY $5.00!!
