Your prescription for long term storage

Thin coat of any good oil. Wipe down with a rag to ensure no fingerprints and then into a silicone rod sock for storage. My safe does have a goldenrod in it. I've pulled rifles out of those socks 3, 5, 10 yrs later and they look just like they did when I stored them.

A/C + a good humidifier in storage area, check them about every 3 mos. I’m in central OH. Never had any concerns.

Was your current system not working? Is that why you’re looking to change?
I have a lot of rifles I do not use at all. Hunting rifles and I no longer hunt ( in years). No intention of ever selling them.
Pass an oil patch down the barrel. No solvent. Wipe the blue with the same oil I’ve used for years. Wax the stock and wipe it off. Never a problem and no ‘magical’ oils. Once a year and back in the safe.
Just can’t bring myself to sell them regardless of price. Definitely a mental problem!

Same here. A bunch of guns I can’t sell just sitting in the safe.
I put the fear of God in a new friend of mine. He’s a big Winchester collector with 6 safes full of rare guns. I did some stock work for him and he gave me an old Remington in 222 he had. After scoping the barrel and finding a corroded mess, I called him and asked about his long term storage practice. Seems he was a bit lax and went into a tizzy when I showed him pics of the 222 barrel. He spent 2 weeks cleaning and coating his collection with WD Specialist, inside and out.

Make sure you oil everything. My grandpa didn’t know to disassemble the bolt and oil it so when his rifles finally made it into my hands after a few years, the firing pin, spring, shroud, all had rust but everything else was pristine. If a gun is going into storage for a period of time, make sure to take it ALL the way apart and oil everything, including removing scope and bases so you can get to the top of the receiver and the threaded holes. No one likes to break off a rusty little screw when they go to remove the bases years down the line.
