Xring Candyflage

Brett,
You have once again set the bar even higher. I like that stock in some ways better than the two you did for me!
Great job as usual.

Lloyd
Thanks Lloyd, but your red 1 is no slouch.
Now your blonde stock that Doan built we can work with, as long as some of your bacon's are involved.
Now that guitar is really something. That wood is unbelievable - looks like waves on a pond, very 3D. Impressive, most impressive.
That's my favorite.
My brother in law builds custom guitars, that's 1 of his creations. He's where I learned the dye process with the polyester coatings for first stock I did for @JBO.

That looks like 1 of Jesse's boat paddle stocks??
I'm doing a Anschutz now with brown, copper, vintage amber that will get orange candy over it before clear.
Orange dye for main color and yellow as a secondary color would be pretty hot!
The blank was from the guy that made the original. He was my buddy and i helped him learn the 1000 yard BR game. I used Keda wood dye. First I did black and sanded it all off and then used blue. Matt

Looks great!
I'm using aneline dyes from Stewmac diluted with water.
The stock I posted was 2 coats black, 2and coat diluted to 2/3 strength after sanding 1st coat, followed with 3 coats of cherry red sanding between coats, last coat was 1/2 strength un sanded.
After prepping transparent primer I applied 3 coats of apple red candy to camouflage a repair in the stock where dye didn't set in glue line.
Finished with 6 coats of polyester clear.

Brett,on some scrap figured maple;

Hit the bare wood with over reduced black dye. Sand it back, repeat.

Then,go to the color.

Gorgeous stock BTW.

ETA: Haha, didn't get to your last reply when I posted. Just goes to show, read first.... engage brain.

I'd like to do 1 in all black.
When I hit this thing with the 2nd coat of black at 2/3 strength, it was very sexy tacticool. I'm thinking if a fella was to sand and apply a couple more coats of black with varying strength of dye he'd have a spectacular look.
