XR100 in 204 Ruger

I posted this on one of the other boards but no one has answered yet so I thought I would post it here. Has anyone had any experience with the XR100 in 204. I am torn between it and the savage low pro. Wondered which has proven to be more accurate.

Hi i know the XR100 in 223 are verry accurate so the 204 should be aswell they are a beautifull little rifle and there is no savage in existance that will ever look as good even if the two shoot the same i will always love rhe Remingtons as i just cant stomache the look of a savage they look like they should be bolted to a tractor for use with a pto.

go with the XR

Thanks for the advice guys. The XR fits me pretty well at least the best thumbhole I have handled; but then again, so does the savage low pro. Unfortunately I have never shot the accutrigger, only tuned or replaced rem. triggers like timney and jewell. I love the looks of the XR as well but groups are what justifies the cash in my wallet. I too have seen stock rems that group great or group crappy. I have definitely been looking at rebarrel cost as well; with that leaning to the savage also. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have figured this one out. As before initial cost as well as customizing cost are a big issue! By the way anyone got some good loads for the 204. I have seen a ton of data all over the web. Some saying you can break 4000 with a 40gr and varget, some saying no chance or try another powder.
Hey gunamonth you let me know when you see an XR for $639 and I will kiss your feet..lol

Holly cow gunamonth, I forgot you were in PA, I live down on the DDC. I haven't heard of JSC where is it located? Maybe I need to have you buy my guns since you got the secret squirrel hookup. I am originally from Oregon and lost contact with my buddy with the FFL out there I used to buy from. I also heard Glens gunshop outside of Annville is pretty good, supposedly he charges 8% over dealer cost. One of these days we should go swill some coffee together.

I have a friend in Texas that has a 204 Ruger in a XR-100 and it will shoot very well.
In fact it shoots better than a 22BR Shilen barrel his wife shoots deer with........
He swears it's the best rifle he has ever used, and he kills a lot of big varmints with it.

I have a XR100 in 223, topped with a 8.5-25X50 L/R.
For a factory rifle, this is the most accurate I have ever owned. I changed the trigger to a Rifle Basix ERV-3, and that is all the modifications I have done.

For 5 shots, it will put them under .5 consistantly at 100yds, then you get the odd group a little over, then the odd group that suprises the hell out of you in the .3 range.

The barrel suprises me with the ease of cleaning, smoothest factory barrel I have ever owned as well. Unsure what they do differently with these barrel compared to the normal remingtons.

I can not comment on this rifle in 204, but as a 223, these suckers shoot!

I have a XR100 in 204, wearing a Leupold VXIII 6.5-40, at first I was getting a lot of flyers, and the bedding was loose as a goose, I had to move the action around to line up the screws. After piller bedding, my first group, 3 rounds Hornady 32gr factory, measured .2 in, 2nd group, 5 rounds 40gr Hornady factory, was slightly less than 3/8 in. No more flyers!!!!! It does prefer a cool, fairly clean barrel, but if I do my part, I can keep all groups within 1/2 inch,100 yds). After initial break-in, I have been surprised at how little copper I'm getting in the barrel, I am in the process of working up handloads using Sierra & Burger bullets, but the Hornady factory stuff is pretty good.
