Here is a pic of my 6mm-223. It is a 15" sporter contour with a muzzle diameter of .670. It weighs 7lbs with a tall Harris bipod. If I was going to build another Xp100 for walk around " hunting" it would be with the same contour. But I would go with a 17" to balance a bit better for the way I carry them. With the bipod legs swung up but with the legs extended to the height I normally shoot, just like carrying a rifle. The 6mmBR in my first post weighs 8.4lbs with the bipod. There is no right or wrong in what you choose. The main thing is to have fun. I know I enjoy hunting with mine.

+1 for Spencer, he did mine as well as 5 for a friend, he has a slight addiction with 14+ XPs last count.

Any good accuracy smith for bolt rifles can build an equally accurate XP-100.
I have several smith's who have built me exceptionally accurate SP's.
Barrels I typically use are Krieger, Bartlein, Brux, and Broughton. I also have quite a few McGowen's which have done really good.
I would go with Norma for the XC.
Barrel taper is going to be determined by personal preference and the type of hunting/shooting you want to do.
Time of completion will be determined by the time it takes to get all the parts together and the backlog of that particular gunsmith.
If going with a center-grip, the Dell trigger is the best trigger hands down IF you want the equivalent to a Jewell trigger pull in the ounces. NOTE: A Dell trigger does not have a safety.
Also if using a center-grip, I have have a piece of aluminum put in the forend area to strengthen the stock there when using a bi-pod. H-S Stock's are terrible for breaking in the sling swivel stud area!
There are several things I do to each XP I have built:
Add an extra tapped hole in the back for scope base. Also have them enlarged.
Put on an external bolt stop/bolt release (Prefer Wichita's as they are slim line and allow you to bring the bolt back further since the pin that goes through the side of the action is in the back instead of in the front.)

Ok I have decided on a 6XC with a 16" barrel. I am going to use a scope I have from my 22TTH over to pistol and get a new scope for the 22TTH. Putting a timney trigger on it. Most shot will be less than 300 yds but some will be up to 500yds. What manufacturer of barrel and brake would be best for this?. What thickness of barrel?. Also what brass is best Norma or SSS. What dies to use?And lastly who to put this rig together and how long should I expect it to take?. I have been emailed that Dave Bruno and Clay Spencer have done nice pistols.

The Dell trigger gets the thumbs up from me also, was a huge improvement over a worked stock trigger, the post/shoe is a nice touch also.

On barrels, if you are going the HS precision stock route, the largest they can accommodate is a Remington Varmint (Sendero) taper. If you want larger or a nice wood one, check out Joel Russo's stocks.
