XP-100 in 6.5 Creedmore?

I have an XP-100 in 7mm IHMSA, a caliber that is hard to find and (I think) somewhat out of date, which is to say, overcome by modern ballistics.

Has anyone out there ever re-barreled an XP-100 to 6.5 Creedmore? The Creedmore and 7 mm IHMSA are very, very similar cartridges in terms of dimensions. It might take a different load to burn all the powder in a 15" barrel, but if the IHMSA can do it and develop 2,000 FPS, the Creedmore might do as well or better.

Any thoughts on this?

I shot a 7 IHMSA in competition in a Wichita pistol, and it was supremely accurate. Why go to a 6.5 when the 7mm has better ballistic coefficients? The Sierra 175 through 197 matchkings have coefficients from .56 to .76. ( they didn't have the heavier bullets when I was competing, so I used the 175's) Experiment with powders and seating depths to find an accuracy load.

In some matches they used 3" diameter "snuff cans" for the shoot offs at 200 meters, and the 7 IHMSA hit the majority of them.

I have a savage specialty pistol is 6.5 creed, with a 17" barrel I get 2585fps with a 143eld-x whithout stomping on it too hard. Its a great round and works well in a short barrel. A buddy of mine has an XP-100 in it as well we shoot ours out to 1k.

The creedmoor case has gotten a lot of love in the specially pistol area, lots of creedmoors, 6 creeds, 22 creeds. Oh and by the way I've been shooting a creedmoor even before they started giving away tactical pants with them ;)

yep. been done many times. any small and medium cases work fine with a specialty pistol.

I got one in 6.5x47 lapua and 284 win...
