XP-100 center grip vs rear grip

@SEBforUSA seeing threads over the years I know you have a lot of experience hunting with specialty pistols. If you had to choose one cartridge for hunting whitetail at max distance what would that be and what would you call max distance? I built a 6x47 Lapua and fell in love with shooting it, so much so I’m thinking the next build!!!

If, I had to pick an intentional LR hunting XP for the maximum distance whitetail/antelope hunting, it would be my 7mm Dakota XP-100 first, and my 26 Nosler XP-100 second.
Max hunting distance would be over 1K with each of them.
Because of brass, if I was starting over, I would likely go with the 7mm-300 PRC, with the 7mmx300 WM being another option

6.5-284 would probably be my go to cartridge with a 147 ELD-M or 140 ELD-M
I think a close second would be the 25-284 with the 134 ELD-M.

Max distance would be based on impact velocity.
Thanks for the input. I may try a straight 284 next as I have a reamer and some 1.25 barrels that should have a decent life left on muzzle end. I do hear that 25-284 calling though!!!

What 7mm bullet you had the best luck with?

Back in the day the 162 A-Max was my go to bullet.
I would go with the ELD-M now, as they tend/seem to open just a tad quicker (Probably because of the harder poly tip).
A lot of guys make the minimum impact velocity for the "M" 1600 fps.
I can't say I have tested that theory though.
For pd's through mule deer I like the heavy for caliber ELD-M's

Nothing wrong with any of the 284 cases in an xp. Ive killed stuff to 700 with mine. Its a purpose built rig, for backpack hunts. Mostly goats, alpine deer and sheep. Have killed a black bear with it too. To be 100% honest with you I think 700 is too far for my rig, but the ram died very quickly!

What is your max hunting distance with an XP under ideal conditions?
Aaron/rickiesrevenge made a good point about the 284 Winchester.
