X or 10?

I would have marked it an X to begin with. My reasoning is if you think it is so close to the line that a shot spotter spindle will open up the hole, than give it the higher score.

If the target was marked a 10 it would have a shot spotter pressed into the bullet hole and run up. If it is now challenged by the shooter, the target is supposed to come back down and a pit official remove the spotter and check the hole using a plug gauge per rule 16.1 (e). The pit official may not have a plug gauge, however, after inspecting to see the spindle of spotter touching the white line, it would undoubtedly be ruled an X and give you a proper @!! reaming.

Where I come from that’s a 10. I would surely have not been given an X on that shot. Never would expect it either.

Well there you go. We laughed at my Etarget post. Paper in your hand and still not perfect. How many times have you protested and they went and found a plug? Plus by most on here the spotter was already stuck in the hole.

An overlay should be used then if challenged then the plug by the pit boss. Once the plug has been used it can not be used again final that's the score.

If Im in the pit, pulling that target... thats a 10 and I dont have to second guess myself. No need to give the shooter an extra X.

Now.. if you want to show a pic with a plug/overlay/eagle eye.. Im willing to change my vote if its worthy of an X.

9.......Looks like it is outside the 10 ring, what am I missing? ) looks like the bullet is outside the 10 circle.

Another reminder, as I have read two recent posts talking about a "line being broken".

Touched. The next scoring line does not have to be broken. It has to just be touched. That's what tangent means. Then it's the higher score. It does not go lower if you touch a lower ring, just higher.

If in the pits scoring this, I wouldn't have had that degree of magnification so it would have been an X. Under magnification, it is definitely a 10.

Tangent means you cannot see any black between the bullet hole and the scoring ring at the point they touch. I can see black all the way across the potential contact region in both images...it was a 10, scoring plug or no. If people keep arguing about this, it will soon become a "9". If that doesn't work, an "8". Eventually, we'll be down to a "miss". ;)

Looking at it on the computer screen here at my desk I called it a 10. My general rule in the pits is that if I need to get my reading glasses to make a call the shooter gets the higher value, and I run the target back up.

In recent yrs some poor souls may have been robbed of that benefit of the doubt since I started wearing shooting glasses with reading cheaters in them.
