Looking for anykind of feedback regarding X-Caliber pre-fit barrels. Good, bad, ugly. Anything helps. Thanks and have a good one!
I was thinking a 6 twist 26" 223 AI with .090" freebore (want to shoot heavies mostly used within 500-600 yds) not competing, just for fun.Depends on caliber and freebore for the bullets you plan to use.
I understand they use "standard" per caliber freebore.
I had a very bad experience with Shilen. Granted Shilen is making it right, but I spent a good sum of money trying to get a 6 Creedmoor to shoot with no luck. Sent it back once to re-lapp it and didn't fix it so second time their cutting me a whole new barrel in a different caliber. 6 Dasher 4 7.5 twist 4 groove ratchet. But I have another rifle i want to rebarrel and I thought about giving X-Caliber a shot.I have a few X-Caliber barrels and like them.
Especially with the 20% off sales.
Wanted a Long Throated barrel for the wife's savage and was told they don't do custom throating.
Went with Shilen and Dummies I send them for 85.5 Bergers for 600yds, long loaded, single shot.
Now have another being spun up, Dummies in the mail for 95 SMK and 90 A-Tips.
28" 7 twist Small Shank Savage bull, Select Match, in 22 Nosler.
That's very good for 600 ydI can get the 85.5's up to about 3100fps, but groups are usually bigger than 3000fps.
I think the shotmarker was a little high on velocity on this group.
Garmin average was 3070fps.

Wife is getting better, with fewer 9's.
She shot this group today, with a 9 and an almost 9
Garmin average was about 3000fps with 85.5's

UGLYLooking for anykind of feedback regarding X-Caliber pre-fit barrels. Good, bad, ugly. Anything helps. Thanks and have a good one!
I understand that. I have had bad experience with Shilen. Granted Shilen made it right but after countless hours and untold amount of time and money later. Still waiting on a new barrel from Shilen. Hope it does better than last.UGLY
In my many decades of shooting, there have been only two vendors who would not admit fault and make it right.
X-Caliber and NSS.
I won't go into details because I'm old and it's bad for my blood pressure. Ask yourself why they are the only barrel maker who has frequent promotions. Everybody else has a six month backlog.
James pointed me to Shilen, so I took it up with them.I have been on this forum quite awhile and I think this is the first time I ever heard of a problem with NSS. James is a square shooter. If you couldn't work out a problem with him you weren't trying hard enough. He doesn't make barrels , he just sells them. A lot of them so he has a big inventory just like Bruno's. And if I had a problem with any of the top vendors I sure the h##L wouldn't air it out here.
