If the rifle is authentic and you would want to sell it down the road it would be better imho to leave it as it is. Collectors are a funny lot. They like things to be original. However if your Mauser is/was pieced together with mismatching parts then by all means sport it. Ultimately, op, it's your rife to do with what you want. This is just my 2 cents worth. I am a lover of modified/sporterized military rifles. I like them much more than the original military version. Probably because they are more useful to me.

My rule of thumb is this:

If the rifle has no modifications and is in original military format, it's actually cheaper to sell the rifle and buy a sporter and you will have money left over in your pocket.

I agree that original military rifles should be un modified. I have a sweed that has a pristine bore, just found new old stock stripper clips, and I have ammo.

I agree...I have a cg 96 made in 1915, found new old stock stripper clips...a swedish Mauser and 200 rds will make anyone ducka u head.
