WOW 600 yard group !!!

Unfortunately at my age I will never be able to shoot like that, and may well never have been able to, truth be told. Nice going!!!

Congrats! Tim that is very impressive, those bullets were hot off the press to boot.
Thanks for sharing it with me after the match, the after match reports are part of why I love what I do.

Goodluck for the rest of 2019, to you and the Colorado crew.

Mr. Hathcock I've been in this game a lot longer than you have and I've seen it all!
So when you give credit were credit is due, you keep people happy, that is what I'm into. I want them to keep coming back.
Other than that, guys in the shooting sports are the only ones that know you EXIST!
And YOU ARE NOT TOM Cruise!

Joe Salt
Are you sure I'm not Tom Cruise?;) I was just trying to say that personal accomplishment is more gratifying to me than having a trophy or patch that says I did something. I'd rather hear the accolades of people in places like this forum who know hard an accomplishment that might be.

Saturday I went to our clubs first ever 600 yard IBS benchrest match near Grand Junction CO.
On the next to the last target of the day I shot a 5 shot group that measures right about .625 (see attached picture) This is by far the best group I have ever shot. Unfortunately I am not an IBS member yet so I'm not eligible for a screamer patch. My 8 target AGG for the day was 2.418, not bad for a rookie I thought.

103 Vapor Trails, 30.5 grains of H4895, CCI BR4 primers in Lapua brass in a no turn neck BRAView attachment 1095143

What equipment were you using rife/scope .
Thank you
Hal

Thank you folks, it was a shock for me when I saw the target up close. Before the match a fellow shooter, George, asked if I was an IBS member, I said no, I didn't have the money right now. George offered to pay my IBS fee and I said thanks but no, I will join later. I had the opportunity before the match and passed. The patch is no big deal but if it had been a national record I would really be kicking my self. For now I have the target hanging in my reloading room. I have been a student of all you top shooters who occasionally share a nugget of experience and advice and I thank you all for your help over the years. Here is another target from the same match, the rifle wanted to stack them in an inch but something happened and I threw one out of the group. I shot less than 50 Vapor trail bullets to develop the load I shot that day.IMG_4550.JPG

The Rifle is a 17 pound F class and soon to be 600 yard benchrest gun. It has a Kreiger 30” long 8 twist.237 bore, Panda f class action, PRT Lowboy stock, Jewell trigger and NF 15x55 scope.
The chamber is a no turn .272 neck BRA.
The stock and action were purchased used off this forum from KT. The barrel was a new Kreiger with about 250 rounds on it smithed by Dan Dowling. The brass was annealed but not turned.IMG_4047.PNGIMG_4047.PNG

Thank you to my son Brian and my fellow shooters who have helped and mentored me over the years, Clay Fowler, Jerry Bush, Dave Gosnell and the rest of the crew in the Grand Junction club for making the F class and IBS matches possible. It was great to share this experience with you all. Im always looking forward to the next match.

Great shooting ! That'll cost you $$$$ !
I did like that with a borrowed rifle, bullets and a ride to the match. Cost me 10k by the time it was over !
I wasn't an IBS member either. Got unnoticed ...that's the deal, can't get the cookie if your not in the group, this ain't preschool. No "participation" trophies.
Join up and chase that score !
If you paid the match fees, it wouldn't hurt them to give a patch. That's how you get new members. Seems to me the IBS is losing members and clubs faster then they gain them. Must be a reason. Matt

You are never too old to shoot good in long range BR. It just takes good equipment and some learning. Maybe a good mentor or Williamsport BR school can help speed up the process.

JIM Ohara and Roger Gower are pretty old and both have set records in 1000 yard BR. Roger was my student at Williamsport and has not been shooting 1000 yard BR very long. Matt

I've got this motorcycle thing going on in my head, so my Triumph Trophy hobby usually gets priority when the weather is nice. It's also a couple of hours drive for me to anywhere to that has more than a 200 meter range. That said, my Bighorn action I just bolted up a 6.5 CM Savage takeoff on got exercised at 100 yds. last weekend and first time out impressed me. One of these days I'll probably devote more time to shooting, but I'm only 72 (in 10 days), so there's plenty of time.:)

Your right Matt just a little something for some Bragging rights would help. We try and give people that shoot well on this Forum a big pat on the back and so should the Organisations that they shoot at.

Guys

I just talked to Robby “The Enforcer” Miles of the Memphis Mafia! Also known as @miles13! He’s going to make you an offer you can’t refuse!

At the Memphis range they have the highly coveted Silver Bullet award. If you shoot a sub inch group at 600 yards your name and group size goes on the Silver bullet and it’s hung on the firing line for all to see! Cost to the club NOTHING! Why Because ROBBY is just that Cool! Robby will make the Silver Bullets and I’ll get the label maker for each range!

Tim’s Silver Bullet will be a nice start to the Colorado program!

Going to make the same offer to Dead Zero! Get you guys started off right!

You’re the Man Robby!

Bart I really like what Robby has in his hands better but that is another great Idea, with the silver bullets! Our Club Had a Plaque made up with Matt Klines World record that is in our club house that is another fine way of saying your the man.

And they wouldn't give you a Screamer patch because your not an IBS member? Another way the IBS is going wrong. It's a patch for GOD Sake. No matter what club it is I hate it! When we don't help keep new shooters coming back and my club is no exception. And this year I think clubs should go out of there way to make sure new shooters are encouraged and helped.
Patches and pins means a lot to a new shooter and if I have to this year I'll donate some of my stuff.

Joe salt
Yeah, ain't many groups like that. Congrats rookie or no. But what we need is a whole lot more guys like Joe Salt
