Talked to the Mayor yesterday, he said the goal was to support the local shooters and attract national competitions to the western slope of Colorado.

And to think, this is in my back yard.......so excited!

Pertty big valley just down canyon from this sight....winds are up-slope up-valley all day.
An hour after sun rise when it switches from down slope to up slope....Katie bar the door!

The new bridge over the canal is installed now and the dirt work will begin soon. The 500 and 1000 yard ranges are up on a small Mesa....very nice views with a fantastic backstop!

Check out the Mesowest site, the Pine-Ridge RAWS (remote automated weather station) site is a mile or two north of the new shooting complex.

Missionary Ridge was a bit blustery in '02 as I recall.
This is a lot lower in elevation, Mt Lincoln and Mt. Garfield are west of the range and the Grand Mesa (worlds largest Mesa....300 lakes at 11000' in elevation) is situated due south of the range. These form the "Palisade".

This area receives about 8.5" of rain a year.....lack of vegitation is mostly due to lack of water.
In the valley they grow the best peaches in the world! Not to mention the grapes and nearly 30 winery's.
Bacically the farmers can grow anything that likes sun in these soils.....just add water.
Remember we are neighbors with Moab UT....its dry!
In June it's pretty common to have Day time temps in the high 90's (*F) with the relative humidities in the single digits (4-8 is common).

Oh Great I leave Grand Junction (Redlands) and NOW they build a 1000 yd. range ......... I just might put a For Sale sign in my front yard and maybe park my Camper permanently at Truman Wilson's house over in Delta.
