Wood working ideas for shooting

I found this at a yard sale for $1.00 and couldn't leave it..... someone made it obviously but it actually raises in the center!!
I was gonna give it to Immike to help him take his shooting to the next level but even a quality front rest like this won't help him!!!! Lmao

Nice! A Colonial black powder rest! Looks like some one did a poor job of restoration. Knowing your work, it'll turn out fine. Those legs should be wrought iron.

I think it's time for mr Garage sale to show off some of his handy work! Let's see the magic Keith ...

Hold on! Give me some time to delete my posts. I don't want to look bad by comparison.;) This was supposed to be an Ameteur thread.

Josh I know this is sort of hijacking this thread but would it be safe to say you have a few extra stocks around the house/shop?:D

In my dreams! Sadly, no. I made the first one to figure out "how" and if I could. Then, my wife wanted the furniture. After that, I got back into it by making eight blanks last September, to try "mass production". I finished one for myself, two for Christmas presents and one for a forum donation. I just finished the third of the last four I had inletted. One more to go for my Kodiak and then I'll start another run of 10 after I do one for this years "forum donation". If I had my way, I'd never leave the shop but I have a Wife and three dogs that need my attention!;) I have had many requests from guys here to build them for sale but the ITAR regs prevent that.:( I'm left with puttering along until that changes. I have offered to help other guys make these. I can supply patterns and instructions, free of charge. The class starts soon if you want to try it. Josh

OIC--The Honey Do list. Well I know that is important. I feel the same way about never leaving the shop but I have a 90 year old father that I spend most of my time taking care of, so I don't get to spend nearly enough time as I'd like there. I bet you'll get that stock inventory up there one of these days. I'd appreciate any info to help me learn about making stocks. Right now I am attempting to refinish some factory stocks. Thanks for all your effort on this site.

Not only does Josh make beautiful stocks, but his detailed instructions and willingness to help are admirable. Truly a great guy!

Alex
I think he is a great guy and I also think That woodwork you do is really excellent. Gives me incentive to do better that's for sure-Thanks for sharing

.......and today is par for the course. I have the fire going in the shop and my stock in the clamps and my Minister calls. He needs a corner bench built for his daughter.:( By this weekend, if possible? There goes the next two days.

Yes that sounds familiar to me. Always something isn't it --you're not the only one for sure. I just gotta roll with it and smile. All I can do. You better tell people you have a chronic condition and can't do woodwork any more. :D

Does anyone have a pic of a die storage block? I'm thinking of making one for my most used die sets, as some of them seem to get used all the time, and never find thier way back into the box.

FWIW,
Have you tried this trick?

Get some of the Etha foam material, heavy dense type comes in Blk or White colored, used for packing around equipment, or used inside most gun cases etc, just cut it to fit tightly/snuggley inside the MTM box lid with the thickness you want, this foam will stop the rattle and not allow any case to fall out, when tipped over etc.

All my MTM/clear Berry cases are fitted this way for this foam from 17 XST Weasel (1/2" tall) case to 7 Mag calibers.

I tried standard foam and it worked OK, but I liked the Etha foam better, I cut the foam thick enough that when the loaded rounds are in place, the bullet tips will indent the foam, the first time the foam is used inside the lid, I push down on the lid to close it, for the first time etc.

Plus I can put all my load data on 2" x 3" lined file cards, with the info face up, to be read thru the clear plastic top, insert the foam and I don't lose my load info etc.

You should be able to find some at any sewing/material place.

Try it and you'll like it. ;)

Tia,
Don

Build flip top hinged 50 round boxes for short cases like the 221, 22 hornet, 22 and 6 PPC. Most of the cheap MTM boxes let the fired cases bounce about and fall out into the lid when it is closed.

If it didn't have all that wood, then it would be perfect for one of YOUR "boat anchors"!!

It's actually a pretty clever piece of work that's been left out in the weather. We were laughing about it on the phone but that was somebody's masterpiece of necessity once upon a time. I think we all can agree that wood has its charm in the right light.

If you guys want to see raw talent then look up Hershell House rifle building films. He builds masterpieces from a junk pile! That's if you ever wanted to know where the lock, stock and barrel saying came from...

It’s all good. Keith and I use “boat anchor” as an inside joke between the two of us. I figured he would know what I meant, and it appears he did. I'm sure it was somebody's masterpiece of necessity once upon a time. Glad we could all laugh a little too.
