Wonderful 20's

Had a great day in Montana shooting PDs. Was enjoying my new little 20 Var Targ until I ran out of ammo. Had to go back to one of my great little 204's. Had a strange thing happen. Had been shooting the 20 VT for a few hours, switched to the 204 Ruger looked in my glasses and saw a coyote 345 yards away walking through the PD town. Nailed it with the 204 with 39 gr BK @ 345 yards and spun in circle two times and went down. I've heard the 204's a little small for coyotes. I'd say wrong. Was surprised to see a coyote with all the shooting. Guess the little VT's just. A lot quieter.

The last 3 yotes I've shot have been with a .17 ackley hornet. The 204's got a good reputation with 35gr bergers from what I've heard.

I use the 204 ruger for a SD coyote trip with 40gr bergers and kill 13 dogs and all went down and didnt go more than 10 feet. The great thing ive found that there is no exit wound with the berger bullets which saves hides.

I have shot no less than 7 coyotes coming into p-dog towns while I am in the process shooting over the years.
They know shots = food and will try to snag what they can & seem to lose their wariness now & then.

Yup the 204 has no issues to 400 yards on them as well.

I love the 20 VT in prairiedogville! I was shooting a metal target at 320 yards. A 55gr HP out of a 5.56 left a splash on the metal, very little dimple in the metal. A 39gr Blitzking from a 204 left a dime sized divot in the metal from the same bench. I am always impressed with the 204 on the fun factor scale. Good for yotes.

Haven't shot any yodel dogs, but the 40 Hornady have bagged me more than a few of the pesky beavers around here at over 40lbs. They seem to be a lot beefier than coyotes and are really tough to kill when swimming. The 204 works better than anything I've tried except the old school Remington Accelerators out of the 30-06. The .204 is considerably more accurate though, and it's done the job well at out to 200 yards.
