Wilson vs Whidden seater

Hard to say.

Assuming a properly sized case with minimal run out fits both dies equally well and both seating stems contact the bullet well...run out with an inline seating die will come from the difference in the case neck diameter vs. the diameter of the neck area of the die.

Few people ever check this.

I've used both Whidden and Wilson seaters. I prefer the Wilson for the reasons MikeMcCasland stated. In addition, the Wilson seater is very consistent. Best seater I've used.

if the neck is straight when it comes out of the sizing die the bullet will seat straight, if not it will not. A bullet being seated will take the path of least resistance, they will follow the case neck wall be it straight or canted

From personal experience, my 284 win in-line Wilson seater using arbor sucked compared to the whidden seater using the forester. Major run-out. I decided if I stuck w/ arbor, I would get a custom seater..

Al is right on about this. I got substantial bullet runout with my 30 BR using an in-line seating die even though the brass had little to no runout. I tried both the regular and VLD style seating stems with no improvement. The die was too loose around the case neck to hold bullet concentricity.

I have a set of Whidden dies in 6 Dasher, the micro adjustable seating for couldn't seat two bullets the same if it's life depended on it. I called and emailed Whidden about the issue and had no response. I will never buy another product from them, not would I recommend them. With that said I have never had an issue with Wilson products, straight and true every time.

Devin,
I have had similiar experience with with Redding micrometer top as well as Whidden. They would not seat to the same depth twice. The Wilson in line seater with an arbor press is much better.
