Wilson in-line seater alternative? Neil Jones?

@X-47B are you referring to accuracy on target, or do you find you are getting runout just from your seating process?
I recently bought a new wilson inline micrometer seater die for my .308 palma brass along with a k&m arbor press runout seems to have almost doubled compaired to when seating with a competition redding seater die on a rockchucker press, disappointing to say the least.

Don't you guys have micrometer top seaters ?
I use them for testing seating depths, just keep adding shims in .003 steps. Makes it a lot easier. Also use them for different bullets so I don’t have to keep adjusting the die.

For me, these shims are going to be a game changer....bought 2 packages!....where have I been?

Most of us in short range "group" shooters have used these. They leave nothing to be desired...( for the money.) Surprised Sinclair now sells them. Someone should. The original designer is no longer with us. There are other devices as of late that are accurate regarding bullet seating, AND die adjustment. I and others have used them both. Quite honestly, the shims are foolproof. Some may think that removing the die or seater is problematic. I did not.Especially when using the larger ones under the sizing die. You are able to get shoulder bump exactly the way you want it without turning the die in or out. This would be with the larger shims...of course. Happy you discovered them. There is another device made by a fine firm known as PMA that needs no shims, ( a fine piece of equipment). If you become a "group shooter", you will see other things many do not , As we load "on the job" after each relay, allowing one to see what others are using. A great experience for sure.

And you also learn how to make things easier and faster, like getting a hood press from @arkcomatt with the jlc click adjuster on the top for your sizer and using the same press for seating all while being able to store it all in one drawer

Been there. Charlie made some great equipment and most innovative, and especially....his bullet puller as well. I just did not care for a press that served both functions, although it had great merit and saved having to buy an arbor press. To each his own.

On most of my numerous Wilson Seater Dies I bought from Sinclair, the dies can’t be accurately adjusted. When I finally get a seater set, I lock it place and and never adjust it....there must be a better way.

can’t be accurately adjusted?

That is confusing? When you say accurately adjusted do you mean your base to ogive is inconsistent or you have a hard time setting your seating depth the first time?

Only two things can cause a wilson inline seater to have inconsistent base to ogive measurements. Neither are the fault of the die and won't improve with a different die.

1. Inconsistent neck tension
2. Inconsistent bullet ogive

As for setting it up the first time. It is a little tedious. The microtop helps but since you are like me and lock the die down once it is dialed in it seems a waste.

Why need anything better than a Wilson? What is not working?

I've always had good luck with the wilson tools I've used in the past, but always willing to learn and the wtc dies intrigue me but afraid they are out of my price range.Seems like after a certain point the newer tools really don't offer much more in the accuracy department but do in the convenience department. An example that comes to mind is the pma adjustable die lock ring.It was not something I absolutely had to have to adjust shoulder bump but now I would hate to be without it...;););)

I have numerous older Wilson 6 Dasher Dies that are/were very inconsistent and hard to adjust accurately. What I did was was to find the perfect SD at touch & then I locked the die. As the barrel eroded, I adjusted the seating depth to put the bullet at touch. It is easy to do if have bullets that a very consistent to start with and then sort them in .001 increments. Any bullets that have more than .003 variance from touch are culled. What about conditions?....an Ezell Tuner will fix that with a small tweak at the range.

I certainly understand the desire to use an arbor press for the "feel" of the bullet seating. I use a K&M force package arbor press with the Wilson seaters and have been very pleased. When I decided to get into the 416 Barrett, Wilson did not have blanks big enough and at that time 21st Century was thinking about getting into that size and of course now they do pretty much all calibers. I decided to ask Warner tool some time ago for the 416 Barrett and they now make micrometer adjustable bullet seater dies in any caliber. I have been very pleased with the fit, finish, exactness, repeatability, and performance of the seater. With this level of tolerance comes a premium price and one has to decide on the point of diminishing returns. Of course, no custom seater based on your specific and not generic bullets, fired/sized cases, and particulars is going to be cheap.
