Will a tuner fix this...

I haven't shot my 30 Major in a while but with the component shortage, I thought I'd screw the 30 barrel on and tune it up, since I have plenty of bullets, powder and brass for it.
I shot a couple of groups with it yesterday in bad wind. Could certainly tell it was tuned pretty well right out of the gate but had a shot out a little in both groups in that wind.

I had taken the tuner off to use on something else, so I stuck another tuner on it. I loaded my typical load of 30.8gr of n120 and Larry Moore's 115gr bullets. Never had to move the tuner..got lucky and hit right on a sweet spot.

Conditions were better this morning so i loaded a sighter and five more rounds and shot this 5 shot group.
Target was a little wet with the melted frost from overnight, so it's hard to measure. Best i can tell it's a .037.

It just doesn't get much easier..or better.

That load can be pretty hot with some powder lots and in some guns, so work up.

Nice shooting!! I think you might be ready for the Nationals!
Lol! Far from it but it's a good start.
A fellow shooter was here yesterday when I shot it in that wind we had. I told him before I shot it how easy it was to tune and shoot that thing. He was watching through a spotting scope while it was just hammering..and then I'd get caught in a hard, fast switch...But he could tell it would shoot. He asked why I haven't been shooting it. The answer is just more recoil than a 6 but that I was planning to shoot it more next year, if the barrel and bullets last. Lots of life left in that barrel..I hope. The small 30's sure last, anyway.

Hey - hows it shoot at 200 ? Looks good though.....

Better than I can shoot it! Really, it's just like a 30BR, in that I'm shooting the same bullets at virtually the same speeds, though. It's a tad smaller and uses a PPC case head diameter. It's a 30 Grendel.

Long story but when I first started with it, Alexander Arms had a trademark protection on the term "Grendel", pertaining to firearm cartridges, etc...hence I couldn't call it a 30 Grendel. I think they have since released that trademark.

I think I posted here or elsewhere that this lot of n120 is from 2015...Correction..it is from 2017.

I still plan to post some chrono numbers from some different lots soon. I don't know how fast this one is but it's working pretty well!

I literally went 10 years without seeing a discernible difference in any lot of N120 but the last few years have shown me reason to believe that they've bounced around with speeds a pretty fair amount. I hope to compile at least some velocity data for a few different lots, so people can decide what's what with it. It's a wonderful powder, just gotta know which ones are fast and slow..and go from there.
