Install a sako extractor timed the way you would for a fireball/vartarg and use the single feed ai mag. The dual feeds jam up sometimes on the 3rd shot(2nd shot if you fed the first one from the magazine).joshb said:i have a Remmy 308 5r that i'm turning into a 6 br and making a new stock for. I'm wondering if it's worth trying to add the detachable mag feature to the build. I did a search, here, and read about the aics working but not a lot of detail.
I chambered several F/N SPR rifles in 6BR when the actions were readily available they work great if you set the mag up right, leave them the mag the way Winchester built them and the last round out of the magazine will never go into the chamber.Mason O said:Here's a question for you guys, then. Would a controlled round feed action like a Winchester Model 70 be easier to get to feed a BR case? It seems like there would be fewer hang ups when it comes to ejection, but you would still have the magazine issue to get around.
I have a 6br repeater I built on a 700 sa and it functions very well.
AICS mags and a PTG bolt with a sako extractor. Think I clipped a coil or two off the ejector sping, as well. Half inch spacer added to the front of the mag and beveled in such a way that it only blocks the four rounds at the bottom.
Cases flop around like a drunk chick on a mechanical bull as soon as they're free from the feed lips, but they always end up in the chamber. My rifle wasn't happy until I added the spacer to the mag.
Loading the mag quickly takes a bit of practice.
I understand that the Sako extractor releases cartridge at a different angle than Remington. Is that what you found and is it the Sako that keeps cartridge from jumping out of action?
Have PTG make you a bolt that takes the mini m16 extractor as it is pinned and safer should you have a blown cartridge.
What about using one of the howa or cz mini bolt actions?
Great idea. Nice actions. Any experience in feeding BR through one? I have a Howa 1500 that I have been wanting to do something with.
I can't claim to have paid much attention the difference in ejection angle between the Remington style and the Sako.
I was simply looking for an easily available alternative that would get a more positive grip on the case. I had tried the Bryant conversion before I knew it was a thing with mixed results. My bolt body is an off the shelf PTG.
A friend of mine named A.J. has modified the aics mags to work with any rifle that uses those mags
to 100% reliably feed the BR. His modification is ingenious and simple. (kinda). He is in the process of getting
them on the market. 4 of us out here are running them in some Tactical matches with 100% success.
I don't have any experience with them. I was just thinking out loud lol. It looks like the magazine oal is 2.33 to 2.34".
