Wicked Cold Weather This Week

Years ago, I was on a job near FT Mill SC. It started showing, those nice flakes you know are going to make it really bad. I kept pushing the customers hands to pick it up, as I had about a two hour drive in good conditions.

Them guys finally finished, I got my part done, and hit the interstate going south. A whopping 30 mph. There were cars in the ditch, cars in the median, I watched a couple spin out. Then, as traffic lightened I got to 45, then 55, then 65. When I got closer to Columbia, I was just about the only one on the road, riding the middle lane about 70, with a light touch on the wheel.

Decided if I stayed at mom’s house it would save me 15 miles. Swing into a gas station Subway for a sandwich, drove 4 miles to mom’s house, pulled into the yard and got out.

Flash bang. Transformer blew, well sh**. She was working nights, so I got in the truck and drove on to my house. Zero traffic, and a pretty good accumulation, I had to slow to 45 and judge the road by memory.

That wasn’t as fun as doing donuts on ice in parking lots through the years though.

Or as exciting as downshifting on a patch of ice and doing a 360.

Fun stuff every now and then. No way I’d care to live in snow/ice regions.

Minus 5 here in Waterford, North West Erie County. Has not been above 4 degrees
all week. Mostly in the minus's over night. Supposed to hit 12 degrees this afternnon
then dip below zero again......Lake freighters stretched their season a bit longer this
year. One came into Erie's Don Jon ship building terminal yesterday for layup and
repairs. It needed the assistance of the coast guard' ice breaker to cut a path thru the
frozen lake, channel and turning basin in Presque Isle bay. Another Freighter left Buffalo
headed to Canada, and got stuck. A breaker and tugs went out to bust Ice and create
a channel......Neighbor has an excavating business. His high lift payloader has been going
non stop stacking snow. We are running out of space to plow it. 6 more inch's fell last
night on top of the 30" plus we already have.....Glad that Lake Erie has finally frozen over.
The lake effect snows will slow down......Well, headed out in a little while with a warmed
sprayer of alcohol. Fuel door on the car is frozen shut and I need gas......

This is bs 10:55 pm and its -8*
Friday will make it seem like a heat wave.....LOL

Had a vinegar type of smell coming from the back porch last night.
A little investigating found an old battery from the lawn tractor with
it's side split open. Floor is concrete so I just covered it with baking
soda, put the battery in a bucket, and set it outside......

I recall a winter in CNY and we went 33 days waiting for the temp to reach up to 0. My heat bill was $900 and that was about 20 years ago now. Maybe abit more as time seems to compress as I age.

Its about 3 degrees here in Pittsburgh and I can do without this.
