Why USPS is in trouble

I ship USPS Priority Mail almost every day. I have had a couple of shipments take excursions but they ALWAYS end up getting to where they were intended. USPS Priority Mail is a great service for a great price.

While this is frustrating and I hope that they don't destroy my Machinist Level, I too have had generally good luck with only two major events in 10 years. I actually asked the seller to use USPS Priority as I only have a PO Box. It just amazes me that a package would end up on a Caribbean Island, considerably off track.

Be happy, it took the SIG/Fedex/USPS triumvirate 23 days to deliver my two magazines for the 320 Legion I bought in late March. Once they got around to actually shipping them.

The post office was privatized back in the 80s they pretend to be a government office so we wont hold them accountable, We all know what to expect from government employee
It really took a dive when the last administration changed the hiring standard and quit requiring passing of the civil service test. Use to be most people were former military that worked there. Just a few left in my area and they are ready to get out.

Not just USPS. A friend was in Western Samoa when his IBM laptop spat the dummy. He called the service centre and they suggested that they would send him a shipping box. He gave his address. "What state is that in , sir?" "it's an island in the Pacific" " Should I put Hawaii?" "No it's Western Samoa, a few thousand miles away from Hawaii" "Sir I have to know what state Samoa is in?" " OK - just put Alaska" FEDEX delivered it.

I have a Midway USA order touring the upper midwest. Tracking shows UPS delivered it to Huron SD USPS Regional Facility May 20, but USPS showed "Your shipment was received on May 20, 2020 in HURON, SD. The acceptance of your package is pending." Then nothing for several days. Called the Huron Center, and lady was nice, but said it was never scanned in.
Then a few days ago, a scan showed it in Waterloo IA. Now its been making good progress back to Huron, and I should have it tomorrow morning.
Somehow, the UPS/USPS handoff didn't work. Maybe the small, light box got stuck in a bag/container. But good news is the Waterloo folks ended up with it, scanned it, and kept it moving.
A few days after this drama I placed a Brownells order, and paid the ~$10 shipping. Speedy Shipping had it here the next day.

You can only throw so much good money after bad. The pony express had its time then it was time to go. Smoke signals, telegraphs, and rotary dials had their time too. Things change. The USPS is due for a major overhaul or flat out replacement. I don't need bird cage liners 6 days a week in my box.

Last year a forum friend wanted to buy three Colt Woodsman magazines from me. Last produced in 1977, sent them "Priority Mail" in the USPS box, all sealed up and padded internally.

My buyer received an empty smashed box with nothing inside. It was such an epic ordeal to TRY to get my lost funds, I gave up and considered it a learning lesson. Again: No wonder these fools get no respect. IF they would only DO their JOB!

I'm done with USPS!
Not likey, they deliver to your house/apartment/Condo regularly most days.

I guess I must live a charmed life as I have had exactly one problem in the last twelve years with the USPS. I use USPS and FedEx exclusively and taking all things into consideration I just can't complain. I've had one FedEx package delivered to the wrong house in the right city out in the middle of nowhere in CA. The man's neighbor brought it to him the next day. I have had one customer receive his USPS Small Priority Mail package in pristine condition only to open it and find something in it that neither of us could identify. That was the day I stopped putting the word "reloading" in my return address. It is now just Mike's Bench. I am totally convinced that someone with the USPS opened the box expecting to fine either ammo or a handgun. I confronted the Postmaster about it and of course something like that could never happen. Someone out there has a nice billet turret for a Lee Load Master posing as a paper weight.

Trying to read the shipping labels on some of the packages I receive from individuals who hand write them makes me think how the hell did the PO ever figure out how to get this to me. I'm not saying these services don't have problems because they surely do but all in all I'm good with it. Personally, the mixing of UPS and the USPS is a total mess and I have learned to avoid it at all costs. YMMV

Likewise.

I've sold and shipped close to 1000 packages in the last decade. I've used all of the services and have had the most consistent results with the PO. I've had one package that lost the contents, most likely I could have done a better job of packing. I also had one that took a couple of weeks to move about 75 miles. It sat in a PO in the middle of the AZ desert before moving to the local PO and to the buyer. That buyer said this was not unheard of, and he got his package in about the time he expected. I have noticed a couple of packages that took one day longer to arrive since Corona, but I give them slack and don't get worked up about those delays.

As with a lot of subdivisions today, the one I live in has lots of cul-de-sacs - including the one I live on. On the day that the trash is picked up, mail delivery is a crap shoot. If the trash cart / container is in the general vicinity of the mailbox, forget it. I had a priority mail package on the truck for delivery. Carrier must have overlooked it, but it showed up the next day. All the goodies we pay extra for? Just a joke. Tracking? Second Day? Just gouging. Ask for a refund and see.

Once upon a time I worked for a company selling massive amounts of parts to the US Govt.

All of the major agencies we sold to REFUSED SHIPMENT VIA USPS.

That tells you everything you need to know about the USPS. Kill it with nuclear fire. Salt the earth.

A friend has a computer program that shows your mail going through the machines at the post office and what is scheduled for delivery to your house that day. A few years ago, he had the picture of his tax refund check going through and scheduled that day for delivery. It never showed up. About a year after contacting the IRS he finally got his money. I hope they caught the thief.

Same thing a few months later with an Amazon order. A picture of the air compressor scheduled for delivery but no delivery. Amazon had to eat that one.
