Why USPS is in trouble

I am not far from retirement. Looking forward to setting up my shop, including my lathe all which is sitting in storage right now. When we moved last, I had to lighten the load so many of my big tools had to go. So I have been slowly repurchasing many of my tools in preparation for the day when I have a shop again. Much easier to do so while I am still employed. :)

So just recently I found a real nice Starrett 8" Machinists Level on Ebay. Got it for a good price. Seller shipped it last week via USPS Priority Mail. It was suppose to arrive from WI on Thursday June 4th. No show, so go to tracking and see nothing after it left the postal center in WI, then finally, on Saturday it show that it is in Catano, Porto Rico. Then onto San Juan, PR. o_O

Today, my new level has finished this leg of its vacation and is en route to somewhere, destination unknown. This is not the first time that this has happened with them. Is it any wonder that USPS is loosing money.

I sold and shipped a gun book to a guy in Ca, a few weeks later its lost, even if you have tracking which I do on everything I ship, it just fell off the radar only to show up in Bogota, Columbia, the guy there contacted me and said its no problem he would ship it to where its supposed to go, all in all 3 months, YES there are BIG problems at USPS.

The X-Man

Main reason their going broke is the gross disregard for the entity, The management and the employees have there hands out for more and more but fail to bring it in first, The laziest people I have ever seen, They make highway workers look good. I have sent several packages lately that took more than 7 days to arrive should of been 3 at most I PAID for 2 day delivery ?????? they just shrug their shoulders, And each one was beat to hell and back some missing the contents COMPLETLY, I know how to pack a box I ship all over the USA commercially USPS and UPS, I have a package of barrels somewhere in ?? who the hell knows, 1200.00 worth, This time it is the fault of the maker, Requested UPS NOT USPS.... I know what's just one little letter difference

A while back, tracking showed one of my packages to go back and forth between Dallas and Houston several times. Reported it on the USPS website and the package was delivered within a couple days.

I would suggest reporting it on their website. It might say to wait until it's way overdue, but something that has gone that far out of the way needs their attention.

Last year a forum friend wanted to buy three Colt Woodsman magazines from me. Last produced in 1977, sent them "Priority Mail" in the USPS box, all sealed up and padded internally.

My buyer received an empty smashed box with nothing inside. It was such an epic ordeal to TRY to get my lost funds, I gave up and considered it a learning lesson. Again: No wonder these fools get no respect. IF they would only DO their JOB!

I'm done with USPS!

I have had great service out of then so far. I guess my turn is coming?
I have noticed that their success in delivery, both being on time and arriving at the correct address is correlated with the major hubs they have to go through. The tracking is almost worthless though. I have found that the label can be created and you get notice that the label was created, but that doesn't mean it's on the truck.

They are owned by the "government", so in reality, the service isn't bad all things considered. Any service you use is likely to be less than perfect because after all, it's not a perfect world.

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

This is the obstruction preventing the "mail person" from delivering mail and packages. Can you get any lazier . It is a wooden cabinet I placed on the curb with a "FREE" sign on it. I contacted USPS, spoke to the supervisor where I was informed, he was aware of the obstruction because the carrier called him and sent photographs to him.

Now what takes more effort, photos and phone call, then wait for a decision or just placing one foot out of the vehicle and delivering the mail. I guarantee that if this was the day the carrier was dispensing their yearly "beg for a Christmas tip" envelope, there would not have been an issue.

YES, they returned and delivered my mail that day. And NO, I never tip them.

Yep, seen that many times. Don't know what it's going to take to bring
some quality back. Just keeps getting worse and worse.

I've had great experiences with my local USPS, but it's in small town America. What you are seeing is the general malaise that accompanies affirmative action, zero accountability and citified, third world work ethic. The same issues that are beleaguering our once great nation.

I guess I must live a charmed life as I have had exactly one problem in the last twelve years with the USPS. I use USPS and FedEx exclusively and taking all things into consideration I just can't complain. I've had one FedEx package delivered to the wrong house in the right city out in the middle of nowhere in CA. The man's neighbor brought it to him the next day. I have had one customer receive his USPS Small Priority Mail package in pristine condition only to open it and find something in it that neither of us could identify. That was the day I stopped putting the word "reloading" in my return address. It is now just Mike's Bench. I am totally convinced that someone with the USPS opened the box expecting to fine either ammo or a handgun. I confronted the Postmaster about it and of course something like that could never happen. Someone out there has a nice billet turret for a Lee Load Master posing as a paper weight.

Trying to read the shipping labels on some of the packages I receive from individuals who hand write them makes me think how the hell did the PO ever figure out how to get this to me. I'm not saying these services don't have problems because they surely do but all in all I'm good with it. Personally, the mixing of UPS and the USPS is a total mess and I have learned to avoid it at all costs. YMMV

I agree with everything in the last 18 posts.

I cringe every time something is shipped to me by USPS. I have had a PO Box at the Post Office for the last 5 years or so. Still can't get mail stopped to my box from the last 3 renters.

I purchased a bolt from one of our members here. When it came in, the box, which was a USPS Priority Flat Rate box, the box was torn open on one end and empty. They had stamped it at my post office saying received empty. I don't know if the seller ever got his money back. He had used a mail service to box it and there was no wrapping inside. The hole was just big enough to pull the bolt out of.
