Why the 6mmBRX....

The other day I saw a thread asking why the 6mm BRX and 6MM Dasher were so popular.
Over the last year I helped a customer put together a Custom rifle. The rifle was built on a Gary Elesio R1 Tube Gun Stock, The Action is a Jim Borden, Borden Accuracy Tube Gun Action, The trigger is a Brian Jewell, Jewell Trigger, and the Barrel is from Dan Muller, Muller Works Premium Rifle Barrels. The Customer is new to Long Range Precision Shooting. He had a couple hours of shooting and reloading instruction when picking up the rifle. This morning I received an envelope containing the attached target. The five shot group was shot with 105 gr bullets, 30.5 gr of Varget (fire forming load) at 100 yds. The orange diamond is a .5" X .5" and the group is self explanatory. I think "Bob" the shooter is on his way to having some fun with his new rifle. As one can see pretty dam accurate, both economical and pleasant to shoot. This rifle will work well even out to 1000 yards, and exemplifies why the 6mmBRX is so popular.

The 6BR imp just flat will shoot. I went with with the 6BRX in 2005. I had a 6BR barrel punched to a 6BRX and my shooting got much better in 600 and 1000yds benchrest. At Piedmont GC in NC there has been 15 to 20 records set in 600 yds benchrest with a 6BRX, by 6 to 8 of us shooting 6BRX's running Berger 105gr VLD running at 2975 f/s. This is where they shoot. The last barrel Mike Davis put on my BAT, a Krieger 8.5 tw, then I worked up the final load it was running 2975 f/s on the money. You can't go wrong with 6BRX.

my BRDX shoots that FF load real well also,,and at 32.2 Varget and 105 VLDs is shooting very well also at 300,,hope to get out to 600 and 800 next couple of weeks

My BRX is one of the most consistant and accurate rifles I own. I just built a Dasher and a 6.5x284. So maybe in a few months or so I can comment on them.

My 6.5x47L hangs right in there with my BRX, FYI

While I have no personal experience with the BRX or the Dasher, They seem like great cartridges. Everything I've ever researched on these pointed to very accurate chamberings that were just as accurate as their parent case the BR. I was almost on the BRX bandwagon myself. There is only one minor setback to these rounds. In the effort to obtain more "boiler room" for powder capacity you sacrifice the neck length. This is probably not a problem with the majority of shooters but it is a negative to those who subject their barrels to a lot of rounds with high barrel temperatures and need the added neck length to chase the lands as the barrel wears.
These little rounds get great velocity through their efficiency. Over the years shooting at "ground-hog" style matches, I saw a fairly big increase in these chamberings over the normal 6 BR listings.

The barrel wears out long before you will run out of neck. this is a non-issue
