Why shouldn't i build a 6.5 sweede?

yes but all cases are not equal and when fired in s full size chamber, under sized brass expands sideways from the thinnest point.....been there done that( actually fellow shooters)
This happens every time any case is fired in any chamber. The thin side expands. Sometimes it's unsightly but doesn't affect accuracy. The key is having dies that are somewhat matched to the fire formed brass.

you be missing the point the brass is not the same spec as the remer( sometimes in the usa with the 6.5 swede)
Didn't miss the point. I don't use reamers that ether aren't spec'd for a specific brass, or one that I don't know what the specs are. Pretty easy to match a reamer to brass or have one spec'd out.

Depending on the tape you were using, you would need 0.0035-0.006" clearance around the case just to make the tape work! That's a lot! For me that would be a reject chambering and something went wrong in the chambering process.

I'm not going to willie nillie cut a $400 barrel and not make it work with the brass and not have that figured out before hand. We aren't talking 100 year old Mil surp chamber jobs here! I also mostly use and recommend Lapua brass.

The 6.5x55 swede is a great cartridge.mild to shoot.excellent for all species of deer and other game.extremely accurate when chambered in a well built rifle right out to 1000yds.

I have 3 I have built, first one in 1985, the last one on a Savage 110 with a Kreiger varmint weight, 26". My buddies call this the boring rifle, because it will shoot a ragged hole with 3 different loads. To be fair, I had worked these loads up doing load development in the lat 1980s, and about every swede I have shot them in likes them.

Spitfire, maybe one of your kids will be a reloader and avid shooter. This one kid may take care of the other siblings. So, if you standardize on a caliber, things will be easy. If there is a down side to a 6.5/06, I have not found it,

Considering rifles for your kids is tough. Availability of components 15 years from now is going to be a very different thing to contend with. You know that the 6.5 Creed will be around and plentiful in factory ammo in the very least.

Nostalgia be damned, the kids have grown up in very different times and values. If you hand the kids an odd ball, they may trade it off for what is popular at time, which they may do anyway.

Aye! Definitely be a great choice. One of the very few calibers of brass that’s widely available from Lapua here right now, just picked more up the other day. Build it and enjoy it!

I’m sure you thought about the difference in cartridge head diameter . But other than opening up the bolt a fine cartridge.

Not the same, but I built a 6.5x55 GWI.
Really like it! Plus, the Lapua brass is some of their least expensive.
That Cartridge, should be,.. Standardized as it's, a Sweet One !
But, I'm doing great with, just an Ole' 6.5 Creed, Tikka T-3, SS, 24", to Replace my .243 Win ,..
YUP, I'm,.. very Happy !

bullet and powder pls? I have some lapua and norma brass

Here is the actual head diameter of a Lapua 6,5 x 55 Case.

The 6.5 x 55 Lapua is impeccable. We use as the parent case it for our 7mm Geramo, which is the 6.5 x 55 necked up to 7mm and Ackley Improved. We fire it in a standard Ackely Imp Chamber, then neck it up to 7mm, turn the necks, and fireform it in the 7mm Geramo.

The brass seems to last forever.

What length action is required for the 6.5 SWEED? I have an old Savage FLV MOD12 in 223rem, can this cartridge be chambered in this action?

Curious do you find an advantage over the 284 Win?

I did not design the reamer. Geramo Villarreal did.

He and Ed were using the 6.5 x 55 Ackley Imp as long range ground hog rifles.

I built Ed a barrel block rifle for this, he shoots the 140 Berger at just under 2900 fps. we all noticed that the Lapua brass not only was some of the best, it had a great life.

So Geramo had a reamer ground to make the 7mm Geramo With a throat long enough to shoot the 180 Berger Hybrid. I chambered the barrels.

As I said, we first fire the Factory case in a 6.5x55 Ackley chamber, then neck it up, turn the necks, then fireform it to the final configuration.

It shoots great. With the 180 Berger, the accuracy is great at 2850 fps with what amounts to a case full of H1000.

It is a borderline novelty. Something different.
