New Peterson brass or form my 6.5 Creed brass?

I am making the switch to 6XC from 6.5 Creed. I have everything to start reloading except brass. I was about to order 500 Peterson small primer brass, but I though about trying to rehash my 6.5 Alpha brass 700 pieces. Is it worth the effort to reuse my once fired Alpha brass? I did a search and am still unsure what is involved if anyone has reused 6.5 brass any info would be appreciated.

The only things you need to do with virgin Peterson brass is resize the necks usually via mandrel and trim/chamfer the mouth. Both of those will make seating go smoother. Don't be surprised if it is very accurate despite being virgin.

I understand the virgin brass prep, I was wondering what was involved with prepping the 6.5 brass to turn into usable 6xc brass. Thanks for the reply.

I am not certain (don't run 6XC so I am looking at photos), but I think getting to the 6XC brass will need a bunch of trimming. Seems like a lot of work.

I just picked up the peterson SRP brass a couple months ago. Other than having to go to a magnum primer to keep from poking holes in them, it's been sparkly. I had the LRP Norma and old fireformed R-P .22-250 brass too. So far the best and most consistently snug groups came from the Norma brass but the Peterson isn't far enough behind to be thought of any differently. 500 pieces is enough to burn out the throat twice by the time you get to 10 loads on each piece but if you shoot a lot at each session it's super handy. To form 6.5CM you'll have kind of a lot of possible but not a lot of definite problems from web diameter differences between .308win and .300sav parent cases. My oldest 6XC chamber was based on .308 brass and it ruins any brass I put in for my current chambers.

Thats what I was looking for. I appreciate the info, Thank you!!

Guess I never thought about small rifle magnum primers in my Peterson brass. I guess I never had a need to look for any before. My 260 Improved pierces every brand of Small rifle primers I’ve tried. My rifle is a switch barrel with a 22 Br barrel also and it’s never pierced a primer with it in mostly RP 7-1/2s as well as the same primers that are now piercing with the 260 screwed on. Who makes Small rifle magnum primers, CCI. I assume? Probably not found just everywhere! Glad I only have 50 small primer match Peterson cases! The Large primer Peterson works great, snug primer pockets and case capacity seems to be similar to Lapua, though I’ve not H2O checked them, just going by visible powder fill and comparing velocity against other cases.

CCI 41s are near magnum output and about the hardest cups you can get in an SRP. I use them in everything and they work very well.

6xc brass can be made from 6.5 Creedmoor. I have a friend who has done a few hundred from Lapua brass with great success. It’s not an easy process though.

Petersen 6xc brass is top notch and FAR less hassle.

Buy some Petersen and sell your Alpha brass.

I bought my 1st box of Peterson 308 SRP a year ago after a couple months and about 10 firings I decided to get a few more boxes for stock. Now over a year later and nearing 50 reloads on that first box with no split necks and primer pockets still tight there was no need for the extra brass. I do anneal after each firing. I have shot this brass in three different rifles all bolt guns. Neck sized and full resized can't wear it out.

If you are getting away from the 6.5 CM, and don't want to go through the process required to re-form it to your new one, then see it and just buy the new brass for your rifle.
