Okay, I just started this thread because the Savages won't let me post on there special "why did you buy a Savage" thread...So why didn't you buy a Salvage? Be nice :)

Me I just never had them on my radar, I started out customizing what I had and figure I would skip that headache and start with a custom

Cuz they're sooooooooooooooooo ugly (how ugly are they??), that they make a Vetterli look beautiful!!

I'm spoiled by Jewell and Kelbly triggers for hunting and competition rifles. Can't go back.

The last 4 rifles I've put together all had custom actions (a Wichita, 2 Pandas, and a Stiller PredatorV). I won't be going back to any make of factory action, either.

Good weather?? We have plenty of it here. I've got around 350 rounds downrange so far this year.

Well, Ray, there was plenty of hijacking on the 'why did you buy' thread. ;D ;D

I bought three. The promise of "out of box accuracy" and some good reviews was the appeal.

I'm down to one.

The thumbhole stock Savage 17 HMR I bought was only slightly more accurate than my Ruger 17 HMR, and the Ruger was a much more refined rifle, so that Savage got sold. Found I didn't need two HMR rifles with all the other varmint rifles I own.

The LRPV Savage .223 I bought shot pretty good, but like many other people I never could get rid of the flyers it wanted to throw. Unlike most people, I liked the trigger. However it was so barrel heavy, and since I already had two others .223s I got part of my money out of it and replaced it with a Cooper in a different caliber.

I still own the Savage 22LR bolt action I bought, but it could be on the chopping block too. It is starting to not feed the cases out of the magazine. Half the time I hear a click because the next round is stuck in the magazine. Now when I shoot it I have to pay special attention to make sure the next round chambers.

I wanted to leave them on the shelf for all the shooters who need an acurrate out of the box rifle that they can change there barrels to an aftermarket one that might shoot more than 20 rounds before fouling to the point of not shooting.

Ray -

Howdy !

Thought about $$$ a " Factor Classic " .250 Savage, but plunked-down the crispies for a N.I.B. CT-made Marlin M-336 XLR .35 Rem...
upon hearing that Remington was taking over.

No regrets.... other than holding off the group for the last 2 shots as shown, when I thought I had read the wind flag right both times.
The gun "shoots".

With regards,

Because I believe there is more to accuracy than just changing out barrels that have been chambered a different caliber with a generic reamer. I question that barrel makers ( who deal in volume) can produce a chamber cut to the same machining quality as that of an accomplished gunsmith. In the quest for ultimate accuracy, subtle improvements to chamber design do matter, i.e. free-bore, lead angle, body size, neck length, neck diameter.
Like I said, winning trumps over having the luxury of being able to adjust barrel nuts.

Doesn't Shilen build or use a Stiller action with a floating bolt head and the option of a barrel nut for the ease of switching barrels? I'm just throwing that out there to state that when your talking custom you can build anything you want and have a good trigger :)
