Why choose a .20 besides Practical?

Yeah that would definitely be better. No pun intended.

I’m all loaded up to test a 20 PPC so will be working with that round for the time being. It’s a two step neck down process using Norma 6 PPC USA brass (because 22 PPC barely exists anymore) but it’s not bad. After the neck down process it’s just load and shoot.
I have some Norma 22 PPC brass new in the box if you are interested.
I sold my 22 PPC and am using Lapua for my .20 PPC Short

It is hard to beat the .20 Practical. You will lose a bit of barrel life to the smaller .20's for sure.
Hard to beat brass availability too; when it's time for my 788 to get rebarreled, 20-222 is next on my list, use the brass I've got and it's almost as easy as 20 practical.

My poodle shooting buddy and I have described the shooting distance sweet spot as the "sand box". Depending upon wind conditions the sand box is usually all targets of opportunity between 200-400 yards. The 20 Prac is excellent within that range. Obviously the cartridge can and will carry farther but we're talking about ranges where there's a high likelihood of a first-shot hit instead of walking bullets in. There are many cartridges which can cover shorter range and longer range targets better and/or more efficiently, but the 20 Prac does the job well and it's a breeze to load for. When all factors are considered (cost, ease, barrel life, effectiveness) it's just hard to top that cartridge.

Yes - I liked it enough in my A/R's to also build one in a bolt gun
