20 PPC or 20 Practical- which to choose

Hi
I have spare actions that I could build either on.

Which would you choose and why out of the 20 PPC and the 20 Practical??

For use on vermint from mice to yote sized animals.

Fast twist or 1:12 ??

Thanks

decided I'm going to build both.

Practical on a Tikka 595 action just like FB's

and the 20 PPC on the Sabbatti single stack magazine fed action.

Both will be built with 1:9 twist as that's the only reliable local option that can be sourced inside 6 months.

The 20 PPC will be first.

Lapua 220R brass caost $165/100 while Lapua 7.62x39 brass cost $50/100.

How much extra work to reform 7.62x39 to 20 PPC???

Thanks

Ogre6br,

My thoughts are that your will have to fireform the 7.62x39 cases which would be a hassle if you intend to produce large quantities of ammo for prairie dogs and such. Using PPC brass is not inexpensive either. It is good quality, but for the volume of ammo I think you will be producing it does not make much sense to me.

I feel the same way about the .20 Tactical. Fireforming is just too much of a hassle when making a lot of ammo.

I would be inclined toward the .20 Practical though the prices for .204 Ruger brass I have seen in the stores seems not to be entirely out of line with other cartridges.

A friend has a 6x45,6x.223 Rem) which is his "walking around" varmint rifle. He is pleased with it and the ease of making brass. The .20 Practical is the same concept...just change the neck.

Of course, only you can decide how much effort is justified, but my thought is that more time could be devoted to activities other than making brass with these two choices.
