Who's got a new truck ?

That has to be the most stupid thing I have yet to see! Just wow!
Paul
I worked at GM in the '80s and 90's. We had the advent of the electronically shifted transfer cases with push button switches and a TCCM, a Transfer Case Control Module. The TCCM received the input from the driver pushing the button and then it looked at vehicle speed, transmission gear, and other parameters and decided if it was OK to execute the shift or not. Basically, it would shift into or out of 4WD under pretty much any reasonable conditions but to change ranges, very specific conditions had to be met; less than 3 mph (ideally 0 mph), transmission in neutral.

I used to say the TCCM was in lieu of the driver's brain. One of the biggest drivers of the development of the electronic shift was warranty expense and customer satisfaction. A term the sales people used at the time was "shift on the fly 4WD." So owners would try to jamb that shifter forward into 4 Low at 35 mph and then come in complaining that something was wrong. Or, they'd keep trying until they tore up the transfer case.

Ever see people, for example, with an automatic transmission backing up and just put the thing in Drive without ever touching the brake? But I agree with the quote above. I sure wouldn't want this way to operate my transmission.

Toyota might be assembled in USA but it is owned by the only country that bombed USA in the last 100 years....
So you're totally against buying a truck that the Japanese company paid American workers a good wage to build here in one of the last remaining bastions of freedom (TX) but unopposed to buying any quality name riflescope with an American name plate but manufactured in Japan, or worse CHINA?
Like saying you won't drink Bud Light and switching to Busch Light. Your protest fixes NOTHING.

I you paint it like you do the stocks I really want to see it, My Ford is likely to become a Redneck Hippie RV at least a cabover
Picture a 68 Suburban sitting on new frame with new engine, running gear suspension, brakes, and a super clean paint job.
Metal work is almost complete now,
next is body swap to new chassis.
Once that's done we're flying out to pick it up and bring it home for me to do my thing.
It has 6' of space behind rear seat, we're gonna throw down a air mattress and sleeping bags and camp our way back across the country and stop and see a few folks along the way.
I do paint stuff other than stocks

I always wanted a regular cab, short box, four wheel drive, but it never made sense with all the hunting, shooting, and traveling I did. Back in late 2014 with 15 models out, I was snooping around online and found what was to me the perfect truck, a left over 14 GMC with big rebates, in my color no less.

The dealer was 300 miles away, so I sent some pics of my trade in, and they gave me high blue book trade value, plus another $500 when they saw it in person the next day. Plus I had another 2K in "points" from my GM card to make it a deal I couldn't refuse.

I saw the writing on the wall back then that prices were to the point that this was probably the last new truck I would ever buy. I've always had a 2nd vehicle for bombing around, so I save the "good" one for traveling.

First thing I did was put a leveling kit on it to raise the front end to a proper level, 2nd, I traded the factory tires for Cooper ST-Maxx 10 ply tires, 3rd, I plugged in a Range AFM disabler to keep it in 8 cyl all the time, 4th, I installed running boards, 5th, I installed a LED light bar hidden in the grille.

Currently it has only 21K on the clock:

Pretty dumb fix for something that was never broken.
Ihave worked as a mechanic for 25 years, worked at a dealer as a detailer when I was 14. I have worked on cars, coach school amd transit busses, heavy trucks, construction equipment, rvs, small engines and powersports. I am in a hlaf dozen vehicles in a typical day that I dont own, If I struggle figuring out how to get it in gear the general public is screwed

I do paint stuff ow those split windows are sky high$$$ now.
Those split windows are worth more than there weight in gold now!

On a related note, I just watched a “news” story about the high price of concert tickets. They had a giggling 16-20? Year old girl on ubloob telling how she paid $6000 for Taylor Swift tickets. That’s just insane. This country is going to hell in a handbasket!
I wonder(not really) if she earned that money on her own.

I'm not thinking "new truck" ever again, but my eyes are open for the right "old truck".

I'm thinkin something like this.

Hey Brett, you might have seen this one running around up in your area. I spotted it up there when I was delivering a load. Can't remember which creek canyon I was in. jd

Yes! I am absolutely against buying a truck built by American workers for a Japanese company! I am also against buying a rifle scope that has an American name plate but is made in Japan. Out of curiosity, which company would that be?

Remember, Japan bombed us! Some of our ancestors were killed or wounded in that attack and I will never forget or forgive them for it! Going forward I will do anything I can to not support them and I will never trust them. IMO, Toyota employing Americans is like Japan negotiating a peace treaty with the USA while planning the attack on Pearl Harbor.

I've owned 2 new vehicles in my life. Both were excellent vehicles, and pretty much trouble free. Both had Synthetic oil from the first oil change, and both over 250,000 miles before selling them. But both were almost base models with very few options. The 2006 Pontiac is still being driven daily as the wife's work car.

But for over 30 years I've bought used besides the Pontiac, and every one I have driven 5 to 10 years and sold for what I paid, or slightly more!! Can't do that with new!

These vehicles were all loaded with options as well, and we'll taken care of before I got them. I look hard and usually spend from a couple months, to this last one over a year to find unique, functional, and particularly what I would ant in a new one if I were ordering it.

I spent nearly a year trying to find a replacement for my 1999 Suburban. I found Silverado in February and drove 400+ miles to get it. But it was more than I would have demanded if I bought it new myself.

What I wanted was a GM truck or Suburban, with 5.3 engine because of their durability and efficiency with plenty of power for everything I need, as long as they were NOT EQIPED WITH AFM systems!!

G80 locking diff, 3.42 gears I drive mostly unloaded, and for pulling up to 9,000 lbs. occasionally, the best most economical choice.

Luxury items, captions chairs w/ armrests and full consoles for storage, 4wd, tow package, and with a truck heavy payload package, with tow haul mode in the bigger tranny, under 150,000 miles, and power everything, which anymore is about standard, but more than I would require on a new truck.

But what sold me on this truck was the L33 version of the 5.3 engine. Not the HP of a 2022 5.3, but,, all aluminum with thicker cylender walls than any other 5.3 block, LS6 Corvette cathedral port heads, 10:1 compression, a special truck cam, with no AMF or variable cam timing,,, and only available on 06 and 07 GMC and Chevy extended cab, 4wl drive 1/2 ton trucks.

It had a few luxury options I would have lived without, but with more than I wanted, no hole cut in the roof, and one owner in great condition with service records,,, right up my ally for $7200.00 perfect for me.FB_IMG_1684083353977.jpgFB_IMG_1684083372888.jpgFB_IMG_1684083407195.jpg

I'll drive this for few years, but taken care of, with today's prices for trucks, and what we will see in 5 or 6 years, I plan on getting all my money back. The 1999 Suburban I just sold made me 600 dollars over what I paid, covering the 300 dollar fuel pump I put in it, and my oil changes I do myself. I count the set of tires I put on it the same as fuel, things that are required if you want to drive them.

Even if I don't get all my money back, I can dam near buy 10 of these for what a new truck cost with everything it has, this why i thank those that prefer the latest and greatest, they make my life better when i want a new to me vehickle!.

Wildcatter nice truck! The problem around here is there are no nice trucks. Everything that is more than a few years old is rusty and beat. After buying a series of 4 new trucks over 40 years I said I'll never buy another new vehicle. Well then in 2017 I wound up buying two new, the van for me and an SUV for the wife. Everything used was junk. I don't want to be constantly fixing junk. I figured these new ones, I'd take them to the dealer for all their service and maintenance. Well, at 27.000 miles the dealer tries to sell me 1,000 worth of maintenance, all the fluid changes, brake caliper service, on and on. None of it manufacturer recommended. When I said no thanks they got a giant case of the a**. So guess what, now I'm doing all my maintenance on two vehicles. Again.

Very clean looking truck. Well done!

This was me before I got old, right after this pic the hair got over my ears, sort of a rebellion against my dad who made me get a flattop at 16 before he would sign to get my license!
