New upload. A 17 Rimfire brass failure takes out the Ruger bolt action rifle. Doesn’t look like an obstruction, either, just brass failure. Wood splinters and magazine sent flying.

I think I know the answer to this question, but there are no Rimfire rifles made with bolts that surround the case head with the typical push feed, centerfire bolt head’s three rings of steel, right?

This video is a reminder how much force is generated even in rimfire cartridges. He shows fired brass, and that case head was shredded.

Save that box for its lot number, Who Tee, report it to the manufacturer. There is either a situation of overloading or of brass being either defective metallurgically, or a forming machine that is drawing thin spots in the cases. They need to look at all your fired brass and remaining shells.

I have doubts about his theory that single round loading is the cause. In his edit, we can’t clearly see what he did before taking aim if I recall, but I would imagine that he is far from the first guy to load a round in this model, that he didn’t insert into the magazine.

If he knows something we don’t know, such as egregious misalignment or manhandling the bolt closed, well, maybe the brass did get damaged, still, that too I imagine has occurred before without incident. I have one of these in 17 HMR, I’ll look at the clearances.

Just because he could see light thru the bore doesn't mean there wasn't an obstruction(partial). I couldn't pickup any bullet trace on the last handful of rounds? Suppressor loose? Or a confluence of conditions, heat(rounds in sun) , extremely dirty barrel, partial obstruction. Did the dropped round transfer sand, which made its way into the chamber during the single load ? Lesson wear eye protection.

I’ve watched too many of his videos and eventually stopped after watching his “350 Legend 1000 yards” video. He stopped shooting at 700 yards and I asked him why he didn’t say 700 yards instead of 1000 in his video. He responded “1000 yards will get more views”. I unsubscribed…

So, he does things on purpose to get views, I don’t trust him and I don’t doubt he made a barrel obstruction (to get lots of views) or had one with a squib round he didn’t notice or did notice and went ahead with the video.

It’s a rimfire, not a reload that someone could have sabotaged and I absolutely don’t believe CCI had a load off their lines that could have reacted like that in a gun without a barrel obstruction. And gee, it just happened to the guy on the day he was making a video. Nope, I think he’s an idiot and I don’t trust him. Hate away, I don’t care.

.17 Cal Rimfire,.. NO Thanks, I'll KEEP my .22-250 Rem. 700 BDL, Down Loaded to .223 Ai Velocities ( 3550 fps ) for 200 and 300 Yard shots, w/ 50 grain, V-Maxes ! WAY More,.. Accurate, Explosive & Precise !
This guy is NOT, the "Brightest Crayon", in the Box for, SURE !
the Ruger .17 Rimfire, Should contain or, Re-DIRECT, Gasses, a Bit Better,.. I'd think.
NO Glasses = POOR instructor for, Kids !
Lucky to, Keep,.. His Eyes !!!
Like 450 BM said,.. I Avoid, watching him, too ! ( He's a REAL,.."Crackpot" !! )

So the guy sat down without any eye protection, and purposefully tried to blow up his gun for views? Got it.

Haven’t really watched lot of his stuff, not really my taste, but seems alright. Have to be some kind of ignorant to risk your eyesight for views on YouTube. I’m not buying it. It’s called a case head separation.

Yea, we only have two eyes and in most cases only one will matter to the shooter when looking thru the scope as far as concentration goes. However, lots of shooters leave the other eye open and that leaves both to be exposed to the danger of something going wrong when the trigger is pulled. All shooters should be encouraged to wear eye protection. Although sometimes I admit I forget to put them back on after examining a case or doing something between firings.

I bought a ruger 77/22 hornet a couple months ago. Brand new gun. The last round never wants to feed from the magazine. I bought a second magazine and have the same issue. The first few always feed fine but that last one the rim seems to get stuck in the ramp of the mag.
That's a helluva reason to to wear glasses. Gotta protect those eyes. Im wonding if the case was overcharged and caused the brass failure. Hes lucky to dodge a serious injury.

Never Had any "issues' with, "Gasses", from my Anschutz Bolt actions, in .22 LR or, my model 64M, in .22 Mag !
THAT was, quite a Bit of Damage to that, Ruger Rifle,.. IMO

At 19:23 he cuts away from the bench view in a manner that we don't see the bolt close. So I have no opinion on cause.

He’s an idiot.

A case head separation? I’m sorry but I’m not buying that a case head separation would blow a gun apart. Why didn’t the excess pressure “vent” out the barrel behind the bullet? A lot less resistance that direction than back through the action of the rifle. I’m betting a barrel obstruction, a bullet probably from a squib round that I “might” give him the benefit of a little doubt that he didn’t notice. But he absolutely would have noticed when editing the video and cut those parts out.

All the videos I’ve seen, he closes the bolt and then goes to the target area. How many of you do that? He’s a gun YOUTUBER and like most of those guys, they’re good at making videos and don’t know siccum about guns…
