Who uses HBN

from what I read, an ymmv, you want to use the 1/2 micron size. the nano size is small enough to sneak through your skin and into your body( its so small it will creep between your skin cells:eek:) and while hbn is non toxic, you dont want it like this. the bigger than 1/2 micron is supposedly responsible for some of the reported problems ( hard seating, scratching things, etc). I have been using the .5 size and love it. after 1200 rounds(Krieger barrel, 6.5 cm [ I know, I know, y'all:rolleyes:]) the throat still looks new and I only clean about every 500 rounds. and it shoots like crazy, several 4 shot groups at 600 that are in the 3/4" range. yeah, I know 4 dont count!! it shoots almost any load and bullet into low .2's at 100!! its almost scary;). I aint sayin the hbn has anything to do with it but you can bet I AINT changing ANYTHING!! good luck sir:)
Thanks. I've been using the .5 mn size from BulletCoatings, I've read the smaller size is much more reactive/ hydroscopic.

Four shots still count but with no pictures it didn’t happen lol
Funny thing is, the 2nd time it did it there were only 4 holes in the target. All the other targets had 5. On the 4 hole target, half of the folks I was shooting against said DQ, only four holes. The other half said no way he shot 4 like this and missed the entire frame on the missing shot. I took the DQ:(

If you look close at the impact rings on the target, the rings around the hole where 2 bullets passed through will darker than the rest; clear evidence of a second round passing through.

ill remember that in case it ever happens again!! thanks:)

I used WS2 for a few years in my 308 FTR rifle, shooting 180 JLK’s, the smith put on a Benchmark barrel, which was one of the most accurate barrels I’ve ever shot.

Why did I try a coated bullet? I was at a point where I was starting to feel my oats in FTR, shooting really well, winning a bit. So, I started to look for the next magic potion, that would push me up the ladder, give me an edge over my competition. WS2 made my bullets look shiny, like a silver bullet. (I can say with reasonable certainty that I never saw a vampire when I used those bullets).

I started to shoot even better, set a National Record, guys looked into my ammo box to see what secret sauce I was using.
They started chasing me (which was strange, nobody chased me, I usually plodded along in the top third), then the inevitable happened, my barrel crapped out at just over 3000 rounds.

No problem, a new barrel, my magic juju, and I’m off to the races again. Well that new barrel, no matter what I fed it, WS2, naked did not group, sure I could clean 800, but with 3 X’s, not the 8 or more I expected. Take that shot pattern at 800 and superimpose it over a 900 and 1000 yard F Class target, yup dropped 6 or 7 at 900 and a whole bunch at 1000.

Was WS2 a magic elixir, yes and no. Did my barrel copper up? No, it didn’t, but then again I have never had identified copper fouling until the barrel is on its way out. (I use a bore scope) Did it make it easier to clean? I clean after 200 rounds or a two day match, never noticed a big difference.

Did WS2 make that Benchmark barrel shoot better? It shot well before WS2. Crossing a plateau in ability also played into the mix. The rifle shot better, because I was shooting better, reading conditions better. But, I wasn’t going to argue with success, WS2 was part of the equation until it wasn’t.

If you like a coated bullet, by all means shoot them. It may give you a performance edge, which is great or even a psychological edge, which is important in this game. If nothing else they sure look cool.

I use Molly and I agree with everything you say if it gives you confidence use it I don’t think it’s any kind of magic I only really consider it for extending life of my barrel

I"m in Australia and imported a SSS kit. Not sure what particle size they come with.
I’ve been making kits for a number of years now and you can find them on OZfclass if you search Hbn on the site. Once and a while I “Bump” the advert and it is up closer to the top of “For Sale” but it is still there if you search.
Mine are a bit like the ones Bullet Coating makes.
Started with a Tubb one {I think now someone is bringing them in to OZ =$$$}
then onto a Bullet Coating one though neither will sell out of the USA and I had just “suitcased” them back from a trip over.
As mentioned, the Tubb one has a mix of .5 micron & Nano particles and the Bullet Coating ones only use .5 micron {the stuff that does NOT absorb through skin/lung contact} I use ceramic balls rather than the mixed SS tumbling media that BC uses. Tubb kit uses none and just supplies a plastic bottle and Hbn powder.
