Who makes new rifles in .222 Remington caliber.

I have looked Most rifle sites and none seem to make the .222 Remington. Even people that used to make them don't list them anymore. I was looking to buy a new heavy barreled .222. But can't seem to find anyone who builds one.
 
I wonder if a fella could order a 40-X in .222 still,I would think so.
If you get the Cooper I’m sure you would be pleased also.
Glad I bought a Varmint Special when they were still available.
A bunch of guys on Saubiers bought some 26” CZ’s recently,they were earmarked for the Mexican market as their civilians can’t have military calibers.I think the reason they made them 26” was to approximate the 223s ballistics and still be a non military caliber.

+1 on the Cooper rifle in 222, great shooters right out of the box. I have a Cooper Classic (sporter) in 222 that I will put up against any factory rifle for accuracy.

Most European sporting rifle manufacturers list the chambering as it remains very popular in some countries for some quarry species. So, CZ and Sako list 222s for instance, the latter with heavy barrel varmint versions available. CZ used to do an excellent 222 Varminter in an H-S Precision stock, but only seems to chamber standard barrel models in that cartridge nowadays.

I wanted a 222 a couple years ago, couldn’t find a Cooper, the wait to get one from Cooper was 4-6 months. I called the Remington custom shop, their benchrest 40x was $2800. and 4-6 months wait.

So I got a Savage target action, screwed on a Shilen pre-fit barrel, put it all in a Stockade Guns pillar bedded stock. It shoots 5 shots in the 1’s, low 2’s if I shoulder or pull one. Lock, stock and barrel cost me about $1300.

I couldn’t find anything in the CZ catalog. Sako hasn’t built them in years. Probably Cooper is the only one. They have a 6 month wait.

That is cheaper than a Cooper and sounds like it shoots better too.

There must be a lot of old unsold stock of new Sako 85s around in the UK then. To take a single well known English gunshop:

What you may be finding is that the US importer doesn't order any, a very different thing.

I should add there is a very good reason why any European rifle manufacturer would be very unwise to drop this chambering. That is that many European countries either don't allow civilian ownership of firearms in military calibres, or in some cases if they do allow it, apply much more onerous licensing regimes such as a requirement to prove participation in specific competition disciplines that require them. Most European nations regard 223 as the same thing as 5.56mm NATO, 308 as 7.62 and therefore list them as 'military'.

As the higher power 223 Rem is therefore either unavailable to many or only with a great deal more bureaucratic hassle, the 222 reamins a very attractive and sensible alternative and considerable demand still exists for it. If something more powerful is needed / wanted, that often means a jump up to 22-250.

You can order a rifle chambered in 222 Remington from Sako. CZ makes the 527 in 222 Remington.

Pfffft!! I wouldn't waste your time. The 222 is old and obsolete. A thing of the past, slowly dwindling towards extinction. Another year or two and no one will even remember that it existed. ;):p:rolleyes: jd
