Who doesnt anneal?

Neck tension and shoulder bump become very consistent if you anneal.

They should stay fairly consistent if you sort by number of firings also. I seldom anneal and then only if a problem appears which is rare. My primer pockets go before anything else. My rifles all shoot under .5 and several under .1 and are quite consistent. I have an annealeze but it has only been used perhaps 2-3 times in the past 4-5 years. Anneal as needed for your type of shooting. Havent been able to teach the annealeze how to tighten pockets yet. YMMV

I don't! Of course I don't run tuners or use flags when tuning either! Heck, I even put primers in by feel too! Lol

Oh yah, almost forgot, I don't clean brass either. Oh and totally forgot to clean my primer pockets for these ones below on Saturdays test session.

Would you mind sharing the parts needed for that pottery tuning wheel and case holder you used to build your annealer? I thought pics of it were in this thread, but I guess you showed it in another thread.

3) tight wrap ss spring ( i got one off a coleman cooler). Have extra if you cant find.
4) 2 cent drywall anchor plug that fits inside spring and on the shaft for the pottery wheel.
5) pair of thin spring loaded needle nose pliers.
6) pencil tip burner nozzle.

Well, I just read this thread, and I will say everybody has a difference of opinion, I do not hunt per say, with a firearm, I generally hunt small game with an air gun, that said, I mainly target shoot with my rifles/firearms. I expect the utmost accuracy from my firearms, I will say any advantage I can do to make my accuracy as accurate and more consistent as possible is what is worth to me, whether it's annealing or turning necks, primer seating depths, or using my Lab scale to get the most consistent powder charge I can is how I reload my ammo for my custom-built rifles!!!! just for punching paper, I also expect the same performance from my air guns, which I have learned to tune and customize over the years of my shooting such guns, IMO, if you expect or accept so so that's on you? my 2ct

I never said 10 shots at 600 yds. I was mostly referring to 1/4 MOA @ 100 yds. which is where I do most of my shooting.

I have never owned a rifle that would shoot 1/4" at 100 yds. Especially not a hunting rifle.

Probably just me.... or my lack of annealing.

The A-square reloading manual has a pressure tested trial using the 30-06. Same lot of brass/load and one group of cases fired 5 shots without annealing and another group was annealed after every shot. Without annealing the pressures went from (1st loading) 53,900 psi to (5th loading) 62,300. The annealed group (1st loading) started at 55,900 and on the 5th loading was at 57,200. As an aside my Pop has annealed cases with a candle since the 1970's.

Wow , look at the difference in the 1st loading. Both cases came annealed from the factory. Wow
It a wonder we can shoot the groups we do annealed or not annealed. It's a possibility that other things are more important for consistency in accuracy.

I stopped blindly annealing about 10 years ago. Instead I started testing annealed vs non annealed in every rifle I would tune up. I never could improve my accuracy over non annealed brass. In some cases it didn't hurt, in others it did. I found stuff that liked light neck tension shot fine with annealed brass, just not better. I sold my annealer a couple years ago. I will say, I dont shoot factory rifles. All my chambers are saami minimum spec. And on the no turn stuff, I dont really run much over .005" clearance on the neck. None of my chambers are what you would consider tight, but they are not sloppy either. You cant wear out quality brass in chambers like that. So there wouldnt be any longevity gained for me. If I was shooting factory rifles with oversized chambers and/or lower quality brass maybe I would have come to a different conclusion. I dont know.

Bottom line is do what ever makes tiny groups for you. Both can and do work.
