Which scope

I am just completely torn between two scope and am looking for an edge either way so I can decide. Gun is used for long range Silhouette mainly and some range and ground hog time here and there.
Choices - SIII10-50X60LRTD
Nightforce 12-42BR NP2-DD
I see some small differences but looking for anything I could be missing.

I've looked through about all the top scopes at our range here at Piedmont Gun Club an I don't see any difference to my eyes in any of the top scopes March, Nightforce, Sightron, so I would go with the Sightron and have money to buy another barrel or even another action , I will say this the large 60mm. lens on the Sightron gathers a lot of light

I own both scopes already. they seem the same for clarity for me and I do like the side focus and the eye relief that the sightron offers. But the BR has been winning for a long time.

I have some friends that have Sightrons. They are good for the money. But they are not Nightforce Scopes. Buy once , cry once. The quality of the Nightforce scopes are worth the extra money they cost. I didn't believe that before I bought one. Now I have 2 and am a firm believer in them now.

I have a few NF's on guns and this Sightron sitting here. I was just gonna do the NF but that sightron was interesting. lol

I REALLY like the LRMOA reticle on my S-III 8-32x56. I am thinking of sending it in to Sightron Custon Shop to get the turrets set up in 1/8 moa clicks. I think that is a $130. upgrade. Love the center dot in the LRMOA....wish it was just a touch smaller....But definitly dooooooable.

I have 2 sightron scopes , last one I bought has a 1/16 dot , 8x32 , side by side with the night force, the sighttons are clearer, only my opinion but for the extra money , I don't think night force are better , sightron are also lighter

If you buy the Sightron don't count on the caps that come with it! I like the fact that all the 62mm camera filters and snap covers will fit it.

I have both scopes. I have a 10-50X60LRMOA on my one 6.5 and a 12-42BR on another. Like them both.

I have another BR in the box AND another 10-50LRTD sitting there. I am just looking to see if I am missing something in which one has the edge. While the NF focus adjust a pinch better the sightron is easier and faster. the Sightron definalty has the eye relief the NF has the NF factor. I know I can't go wrong with either just looking to see if I am missing something even having both I can't decide which one to put on the new rifle.

What does that have to do with F-class competition? I don't think the military uses 12-42 X56 scopes.

Well, I try not to use my scopes as bullet stopping devices. In fact, I'm not clear on how that feature can help in F-class shooting.

For me, the main features I look for in a riflescope for F-class are:

Magnification.
Resolution.
Repeatability of adjustments.
Clarity.

I used a $400 Weaver T-36 for several years. The magnification was fine. The resolution was not as good as more expensive scopes but it was adequate. The repeatability of adjustments is outstanding, never had an issue and I wound it up and down. I did not enjoy the 9MOA per revolution, but I adapted to it. The clarity was its main issue. It was quite dark in the early morning or very cloudy days.

My NXS 12-42X56 has the magnification; it's stuck on 42X all the time. The resolution is much superior to the Weaver, but so was the price. Is it 5 times better than the Weaver? No, but it's a lot better. The repeatability of adjustments is as good as the T-36 and it does have 10MOA per revolution. (Both are 1/8 MOA per click.) The clarity is better than the Weaver, but certainly not 5 times better.

The only way to have better clarity at high magnification is to have a large objective lens. Of course, once you have the most light, you need to make sure you don't lose it going through the various internal lenses.

My NXS has good glass, but my Nikon Tactical has better glass and costs about half. Of course, it does not have the magnification and that's item 1 on my list.

The reticle selection is more of a personal thing, but I like simple. Mt T-36 has fine crosshair and 1/8 target dot. I like the NP2-DD reticle in my NXS. A lot.

I have checked out both before I went with the Sightron and that's not because I feel the Sightron is better then Nightforce. I couldn't justify the cost difference for the gain, If my pocket was deeper I would own the Nightforce!

Any 30" barreled 18# single shot 308s being used by the military?
Any F class bipods being used by the military?
Should we crimp primers the way the military does?


If you ever served and had more than the average # functioning brain cells and didn't believe everything that you were told then you know that there is a right way, a wrong way and a Navy/Army/Marine/AF way. Doing it the military way does not make it right. (ask anyone who served)

If I needed to drag my rifle over rocks in asscrakastan and I'm using it on a two way range then rugged matters, but the only dragging my competition rifles get is in a padded case from the truck to the line.
