Which is more accurate? 6mmBR or 6mm Dasher

We let our shooters who can't lay down shoot from portable benches Jim. That way everyone can enjoy it. Should have my dasher early in the new year. With barrels hard to come by down under I'm toying with the idea of a Palma profile with a barrel stretcher tube for LG 1000yd BR and FO. Suppose it would help the rem action stress wise without a big piece of steel hanging off the end.

Jim, Mike Wilson may have beat you this year for points, but you didn't attend near the matches that he did. Bet we will so more people copying your equipment setup and shooting style in 2014. I hope to have my heavy built for next season. You proved to me that speed isn't king for kicking the wind or getting the win. I will be retiring my 6.5-284 as soon as my barrel goes south or I can afford it. Be 6.5-47 on both. Jim proved to the WV and VA clubs that reading the condition and repeating the shot is the way to go. Racing the conditions and going for speed may bring a win every once and a while, but it won't take a win near as often as proper setup and the ability to read and adjust for conditions.

Jim, I found out this weekend that my loads are really temp sensitive. 200 yard 3 shot groups were 1.5" at 38 degrees, dropped down to 0.408 at 48 degrees. 200 yard groups. Need to really start writing this stuff down and start studying it.

articmp, If you look at the aggs for heavy,i didn't do too bad with a light gun at Harry Jones. Do you need one? I would be more inclined to get more barrels for the LG……. jim
BY1983 do you know Dave G…..? I have been going back and worth with him on Email. ……. jim

IMR4350. Anybodys guess what powder I will be running next year in the 6.5-284. Got 1 pound left. I havr not been doing any record keeping. I was just out to have fun with it this year. Learning as I go.. Won 2 relays and got the itch to get rookie of the year next year, seeing how Katarina and Clay have finished up their rookie runs. Hate to run 1 gun in both classes, but might have to. Money is a tad short right now to get the heavy completed in time. I should be good on primers and brass for the 6.5-47.... gonna be close on bullets. That would leave me needing dies, barrel, and powder for next year... if I rebarrel for next year.

I only use two loads in the Dasher below 90 degrees and above. But i am running that temperature sensitive RL-15……. :)……jim

You'll not be able to discern statistically significant accuracy differences, unless you conduct tests that would bankrupt most people.

So, the answer to your original post subject question is "neither".

What you're trying to decide is whether more velocity is advantageous vs. other factors (barrel life, brass forming, whatever) for the shooting you intend to do. Me, I go for efficiency; I'll gladly sacrifice modest speed gains for less trouble in other aspects. Which is why I'm also a huge fan of the .308 and .223. 8)

JIm,

A 308 has held the IBS 600yd Heavy gun small group record for 6 years 0.404" I was in the pits when it was shot. I think the 6BR and 6BR IMP's are the most accurate rounds out past 1000 yds, bar none. At 600 yds it is a toss up, but for 1000yds the IMP's have the upper hand for sure. I have both 6BR and 6BRX, so I can pick each.

Steve,
My first 8tw 6 BR would only run 2790" with 105gr. I had my gunsmith punch it to a 6BRX. I could run up to 3050 f/s, but shot best at 2975 f/s. I started shooting much better, I shot one IBS 600 yd Score with that gun. I shot one more Score record ( retired on the old target )and LG Small group in 2007 with the next 6BRX gun. If in doubt go with Dasher or maybe a 6BRX.

No, Rodney's son Paul beat my 2007 record of 0.749" with a 6BRX, shooting 0.711" and a AGG at the same time, in 2008. Sam Hall beat that with a Dasher, I think, breaking LG score and Group 50 / 0.699". Rodney did best that with a Dasher this year shooting 0.349". From 2006 to 2010 many 600yd were set with the 6BRX. I guess it is the Dasher's time now. But, Sam Hall and Terry Brady have set more records than anyone in IBS 600yd with a 6BR.

Jim- Yes I speak to Dave G via email often. Im in the process of setting up Western Australias first 1000yd BR facilities at my range and hopefully we will be underway in the new year. I believe we have the shooters and the kind of range that can really show some impressive aggs.

My experience regards 6 dasher with 6 shots @ 1000 meters (1100 yards) in 75mm (2.95 inch).

I don't have a 6mmBR but i believe that every calibers (6mmBR and 6dasher)
have the same accuracy, so if you shoot until 600 yards/meters go with the 6mmBr ( buy the brass and you are ready to go no fireforming), otherwise if you shoot until 1000 yards/meters stick to 6 dasher more boiling room and more speed and less wind deflection.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess the consensus is that they are both equal but if you are going to mess with one why not strictly use the Dasher and eliminate all doubt.

Thanks for all input.

Steve

BTW, I am going to ask another question but don't want to contaminate this thread.

If you want to occasionally shoot factory ammo, then the choice is clear.

I'll shoot what has been called "a plain jane BR" by some of my buddies and not look back. Bottom line is shoot what you feel you have confidence in.
