Which is more accurate 6mm BR/Dasher or 6.5 x 47 Lapua

Matt was shooting a .300 Davis, Jon Myers was shooting a straight .284 and Mark, I believe you were shooting your .284 Walker.... How close was I??

2/3, so not bad Ben! Matt was also shooting the 7 Walker…

I'm not certain, but I also think Bryan and his son were shooting their 7mm on team day.

Matt must have dipped into the Walker on what we did shoot on Sunday.. But Matt was shooting the best I have ever seen.. Now admittedly, I don't have that much experience, BUT ole' Matt was burning up the tracks and I have never seen anything like it!!

Matt shot his 7mm the whole match, including Friday when we shot the team match together.

My point was that it certainly was not a Dasher or 6.5x47, and that other cartridges can be very accurate as well, all the while giving a little better chance to win - in particular in very challenging conditions. Just as that formerly sleepy person above states much more eloquently than I.

I understand your point perfectly Mark>>>> and I agree with it... However, the OP was asking which of those 3 was the most accurate and he was limited to a max of 600 yards.. Additionally, he wanted something small for various reasons.. so based on his original question(s) concerning accuracy, I stated my opinion regarding his question(s).. I believe we drifted away from that groundwork and into areas unoccupied by the OP's original intent of his questioning... Since we have drifted, I agree with the concept that BIG, with HIGH b.c.'s, will outperform, under "less than ideal" conditions, smaller and arguably more accurate rounds.. There is a LARGE chasm betwixt the BR game and the F-Open game..

give 2 guys the same 2 guns same ammo same set up same day, one in one caliber and one in another caliber. i bet you you'll still be debating witch caliber is more accurate after they get done shooting.

Yeah, Ben, we're on the same page, I had actually edited my original post above to vote for the 6.5x47, of the OPs options…

I know we'll disagree on that as your Dashers have been lasers, but I need every bit of help I can get, and at 600 if the wind is up at all, the 6.5x47 seems to edge out the Dasher at least for me.

Course all this having been said, and all the discussion on who has won what - anyone know what Jim Fowler was shooting in the MR Nats this year? Um, Dasher anyone… ;)

Mark, I agree with you. When I went to Louisiana, since I had never shot there before, opted for my .300 WSM instead of my "47". I misjudged the wind and lost some points up wind! I still managed to end un in third place behind a 284 Shehane. So the winner was a 6mm, second and third were a Shehane and .300 WSM respectively.

Most of all of us that travel to big matches do not risk showing up under gunned since it's already hard enough to beat these F-Open shooters!

Also, I'm sure Jimmy "Dasher" Fowler was shooting a Dasher at the MR Nationals, if he didn't, we would have to change his nickname! ;)

Fowler was shooting his dasher at the TSRA MR, and when he left, he said he'd never do that again. He'd never show up under gunned. He usually hammers everywhere he takes that thing. Not sure what was going on that match.

Incidently, I was shooting the 7 Walker at 2013 MR.

Yep.
Shot my best and worst scores ever, all in the same day ;-)

Shot the above debated LA match also.
Was in second after day 1. Blew it on day 2

I remembered seeing your name in the aggs. Looked it up and there you were. ;) [br]
At this year's Berger SW LR Nats, I shot my worst F-Open score in second match Saturday. Came back Sunday and won the daily agg. Things are like that sometimes.

Thanks everyone for their comments. Did turn into something I thought was a little funny.

Just a little info from my side, I won the last mid-range match (500 meters) using my 6.5 x 47 Lapua and 130 Bergers against 3 Dashers using 105's. The Dashers cleaned the targets on the first day in almost dead calm conditions while I dropped 2 points due strictly to brain farts. Two tight 4's on the 300 meter target. On the second day the winds came up and I cleaned the targets while the Dashers dropped a lot of points. As Steve Blair has said this is an aggregate game over a lot of shots and it proved to be true on this occasion.

This indicates to me that the 6.5 is at least equal to the Dashers on that day against those shooters.

Thanks again for all you info.

Steve

Dumb question from someone with precious little experience. Berger shows the 105Hybrid and 130VLD as having nearly identical ballistic coefficients. Shouldn't the wind drift be the same for the same velocity? Or does mass play into the equation?

That's because the "47" has a higher CDI factor. :D
