Which is more accurate 6mm BR/Dasher or 6.5 x 47 Lapua

With all BS. aside, the quality of the barrel means a lot in the wind…….. jim

Also the quality of the shooter.

Bigger bullet also makes bigger hole on target and hits the berm harder, making it easier for target puller to find the shot on target and give you fast pit service. That means a lot in F-Class.

Eric, i don't have that luxury, i have to read the wind 10 times to make sure it's the same as i zeroed in to shoot 4" 100's ;)…… jim

Conversely, Jim, you also don't have to wait (sometimes too long) for pit service and make twenty wind calls over a much longer period. That's why benchrest and F-Class are called by different names. They're different. I would not expect to be competitive in benchrest with my .300 WSM, no brake, barely able to fit on a bench, too heavy, etc. Likewise, most benchrest shooters have a lot of problems when they shoot our format. That's because they're different. [br]
Did I mention that benchrest and F-Class are different? ;)

Dumb question from someone with precious little experience. Berger shows the 105Hybrid and 130VLD as having nearly identical ballistic coefficients. Shouldn't the wind drift be the same for the same velocity? Or does mass play into the equation?

Mass is so very important.

Similar situation with SteveB. A few years back shooting on a very bumpy Sat. Top 3 were 6.5s of 1 sort or other (260Rem, 260 improve, 6.5 Mystic). Lots of very good shooters driving 6mms. This was before 7mm was even considered an option.

Sunday, calm air, 6mms eating up the centers but they lost so much on Sat that the 6.5's maintained their positions.

My journey to FTR was mostly based on recoil and costs. 223/90 was the rabbit hole I went down. Very accurate. Great to 600m. What a gong show at 1000yds. Paper ballistics and paper targets would have indicated a very competitive set up.

Real world loves INERTIA. but if really want to learn winds, it will teach you.

so now I am driving a 308 for LR and working around the recoil issue. The driveability of these heavier bullets at distance is markedly better

The further I go and the bumpier the air, the more I want a heavy bullet.

One other factor that makes F-Class different is that most of the world, except the US, does not shoot spring fire where you are allowed to shoot 17 rounds in a total of 22 minutes (I think that is the time). Most of the world shoots F-Class where there is a time limit of 45 seconds per shot. You are not allowed to wait for conditions. You must shoot within the conditions during those 45 seconds. This is the one of the reasons I continued with the 300 shooting 210's. When the winds came up and we had to shoot, I always seemed to be in the top contention after the matches were over.

When shooting in Raton this year I was amazed to see guys rapid firing during good conditions and then laying back when the conditions changed. We never do that! The scores were so much higher as a result. Try shooting pairs or triples during those conditions and you would be amazed how much the scores would be reduced.

This is why the 300's shooting 230's are considered a problem. The recoil force precludes machine gun firing during the good conditions. Here, where you have time between shots, then the recoil consideration becomes one of how much you can comfortable absorb in your shoulder. 300 recoil does bounce you around even with the 210's.

Steve, It's not too heavy for the heavy class it can be a 100 LB. and not be too heavy. I have to wait for a condition to come back,if it does. It all comes down to reading the wind and be able to get the same condition or you must adapt to what condition it gives you. I leaned 50 years ago how to read it, now you have apply it. We as shooter make some stupid mistakes but the guy that makes the least is the winner. The wind blows the same for everybody not just F class. ……. jim
