I'm going to be getting hot and heavy on getting my Savage 110 long action small-shank overhauled before hunting season starts. I'm re-chambering from 30-06 to 308 and I'm going to use a medium weight barrel. Last year I hunted with my M25 (scoped M14) with a heavy barrel, so even if I went with a varmint or bull barrel, it would still be lighter than what I hunted with last year.
I think that rifle weighed in at around 12 or 14 pounds and I didn't really have a hard time packing it around.
I had originally thought of using a Bell & Carlson Medalist sporter stock. I want something composite and bedding is not an issue for me at all. I bed M14's, so bedding a simple bolt gun is not a challenge for me at all.
Should I be going with a McMillan or something else? I'd like to keep the stock as light as possible, but not if it means sacrificing accuracy.
So basically, I'd like a composite light, accurate hunting stock that I can abuse in the soggy Pacific Northwest or the Oregon high desert.
I'm looking for 1/2 MOA to 1 MOA accuracy.
And I'm sold on using the Savage, so don't try to talk me into using another rifle. This one was a gift from my departed step-father. It's never taken game as he was more of a beer hunter than a deer hunter.
This build is personal.
At this point, it's either a B&C stock, McMillan Savage HTG or a Manner's hunting stock.
Tony.
