How to obtain a 5R Savage barrel?

I'm having second thoughts about my upcoming Savage build. For now, I was planning on using a Criterion 308 barrel cut down to 20" and fluted, chambered in 308. I've got two rifles (M14's) with 5R barrels and I love them. I'd like to do a 5R for my Savage if possible. If I bought a blank from someone, who do you all recommend to chop, contour, chamber and flute a barrel blank?

I can't find a Savage pre-fit 5R. I'm looking to use a M118LR chamber.

I'm using a Savage 110 long-action small shank, blind mag receiver. I've already ordered a McMillan HTG stock and I got a NSS recoil lug and barrel nut to compliment it. This will be a mid-range hunting rifle (target practice out to 600yds and hunting out to 400yds, max).

Tony.

I have 2 Rock Creek 5R barrels. Both are 6 Dashers. One on a Savage 12FTR and the other on a Marlin X7 hunting rifle. Randy Gregory at Accuracy Unlimited in Medford, Wisc. did both for me. I am well satisfied and would do more. Barlow

Thanks! I just shot him an e-mail.

I would go with Mr. Stevens recommendation. However, you can call Southern Precision (Bugholes) last I heard they were doing Savage and Rem/Age prefits with Bartlien barrels.

I just took off my factory barrel, it is a 24” 5R, .308 Fluted and Threaded. Kind of a heavy barrel it only has 40 rounds of GMM through it but you want a 20”

Came off a new Short Action 110 Tactical.

We’re making a small run of Savage prefits to see how they go over. All small shank.

6mm, 6.5mm and .30cal barrels.

Standard Savage target/varmint contour.

Will finish at 26” or less.

You can have your choice of chamber as long as we have the reamer.

I should've listed this info. as well....

The 6mm's will be 1-7.5 twist.

6.5mm's will be 1-8 twist.

.30cal. will be 1-10 twist.

Also due to the amount of requests we are doing some .25cal. in a 1-7.25 twist.

Price on the barrels is $475 plus the brown truck fee.

This is an excellent deal.

Frank Do you have a reamer list on your site? I want one.

10at6, I don't have a reamer list on our site. Sorry! The thing changes almost weekly and I couldn't keep up with the changes.

We have darn near all the standard calibers and some what I will call custom/match chambers. Best thing to do is email us what your looking for and we can respond better that way.

info@bartleinbarrels.com

As an example...in 6mm's......6PPC ( 2 different versions of the throat), 6BR, 6BRA (on the way), 6 Creedmoor (2 different versions of the throat), .243, 6 Rem. (2 different versions), 6x47 lapua etc..

6.5mm....6.5x55 (2 different versions), 6.5CM, .260 Rem.(3 different versions), .260AI, .264wm, 6.5PRC, 6.5x300wby, 6.5x284 a couple of versions....etc...

.30cal.....long list....4 different versions of .308win., .300wm like 3 different versions, .30-06 a couple of different versions, .300PRC, .300 Norma, .300wby, .300rum, etc....

On the .25cal. most standard type calibers and we just got in the new .25 Creedmoor.

they should fly off the shelf and I will buy one soon as I get some mula

Thanks Frank. I want a 6 BRA

Reamer is on order. I borrowed one from a friend just a month ago for a 6BRA I’m working on. Gonna shoot it for the 3rd time tomorrow.

Our own reamer should be here end of April or beginning of May.

If you want a stick call and get the order in. It’s first come, first served. Right now depending on caliber....we’re only making like 5-10pcs. Of each caliber. Will see how they go/sell. If good then will start another run.

If you call and we have a blank in stock and just have to chamber it and cut and crown to length and we have the reamer etc....turn around time will be like 2 weeks.

The barrels should be coming thru this month some time. I cut shop orders not customer orders to get them scheduled thru the shop. So if a customer calls in and wants one will pull it from the current run and put your order/name on it.

The prefits will finish at 26” or less. We’re making 27” blanks.

I picked up a used 112V Series J in .223 Rem. a while ago. The barrel was junk of course. So I pulled it and we made one for the rifle and this is for my 12 year old son so he can have his first serious rifle so I can teach him some long range shooting.

Still did it in .223 Rem., 5R rifling, 1-7 twist.

Other than lapping the lugs and I trued/recut the bolt face that's all we did when I installed the barrel.

Scott at work pillar bedded the stock for me and I had Doan Trevor modify the stock for an adjustable cheek piece. Used KMW hardware for that.

It's a laser beam and the kid loves it. He shot it for the first time just over a week ago.
