Which chronograph?

I'm still using my Chrony Beta Master. Then truing my velocity or BC shooting at distance.

While it would be nice to have one of the Doplar systems, I might actually invest in the Shot Marker.
Gives all of the info at the target.
You are hard core! While mine worked fine, I could never stand setting it up and using the clumsy interface. I bought a used Lab Radar. I might have to sell my Master Beta.

For most of the time, a slight change to the velocity gets things aligned up at 800 yards.
But I found that I was more consistent with the 150gr ABLR in 7mm to actually increase the BC.
Figured that out when I tried to adjust the velocity first, and it wasn't matching at 1,000 yards. Put the velocity back and BC adjustment fixed it.
They were shooting 6" high at 800.

I dislike changing speed to true up solvers.
I’m not saying it never works but I also find changes to BC works much more consistently for me.

I'll agree with that!
My usual threshold for changing velocity is fairly low.
Say if I'm within about 2" vertical either way.

Any more than that, and I'm looking more at the BC.

Ok, I didn't understand any of that, but that's ok. All I do is usea chronograph to find my load speeds so that I can see if they will likely or not likely remain supersonic at 1000 yards.

I'm looking into chronographs. It is obvious the Garmin Xero is the current prom queen. But budget is also a factor. I've found these options from Midway, my usual goto.
Athlon Rangecraft $399.99
Garmin Xero C1 refurbished $429.99
Garmin Xero C1 new $499.99
So, experiences/thoughts/comments on the Athlon?
Consider Garmin refurbished to save $70?
Go only with the new Xero?
And I know there's a new and probably even better Garmin but just can't consider $700.
Finally, anywhere selling them for better prices?
Thanks for any and all input.

Get a new Garmin C1 or the Athlon if you need to save $100. Either is better than any of the other options out there including any of the opticals, Magnetospeed or LabRadar.

Does the Garmin C1 or Athlon measure up into the +- 3900 fps range and above that my Labradar does not? That is my one issue with my Labradar, but I got it at a steal of a price. It does seem like they are bringing high prices (used) for some reason, now.

Danny,

I'm not worried about what my velocity is at 1,000 yards per say.
Remaining supersonic.

Even though you run a bullet over the chrono near the muzzle, there can be some variance.
When you plug the speed into your ballistics calculator, that variance can result in hitting either high or low on your target at distance.

So, if you use the ballistics calculator to figure out your drop, and it's hitting either high or low on paper, then you can do either velocity or BC corrections in the ballistics calculator to get things to align up.

This is especially essential for the hunter that needs to be on with the first shot.

Not sure about the Athlon but the Garmin goes to 5000fps and much easier to set up and use than the Lab Radar.

Athlon is 65-5000 I believe and Garmin 100-5000 I think. A visit to their respective sites will give you accurate answers.
Why would you post "I believe" and "I think" without >knowing< then tell us to go look a the website for accurate answers??

Maybe I don't need to know beyond a 99% certainty and figured I wouldn't bother doing other's research for them. They could if they want 100%. Whaaat? Have to actually go look it up for myself? But I just want to ask and get someone else to look it up for me. Sorry.
