Garmin Xero C1 Pro - The One to Rule Them All?

Garmin came through! We asked, they listened. The updated app, for Apple devices anyway, will allow multiple session exports. No need to export each session in separate emails. And it comes across as an .xlsx file instead of .csv. Individual sessions in the spreadsheet are in separate tabs. They also fixed the trouble with a device not seeing a session viewed on another device. Now there's a cloud option. You can have your session data automatically uploaded to the cloud where it's visible on all your devices.

I was really pleased with the Xero to begin with. Garmin's continued enhancements have convinced me I made the right choice.

I used mine the other day and updated the software. I think it looks like they got rid of that useless energy calculation data field, or whatever it was. I had to test a 7 shots experiment I did on my 6xc Lapua necks. Success!

I haven't see one for Android yet. Looking forward to this and hopefully the ability at some point to pre-create a session with all my edits and push it to the device when I'm ready for it and then simply export all used after range time. I don't want to be editing identifying info at the range, I want to shoot.

After using my G X C1 Pro for a few sessions I'll throw in my $.07 worth (inflation adjusted....thanks Uncle Joe):

The good: Attaches to my Neo rest with a quick connect. Easy to aim. Small enough to fit in a spare shooting glasses case and fit in my range bag. On board Li battery with great life.

Not so good: Not having an app that serves as a real time remote display/control. It missed 1 shot on two consecutive 5 shot strings last outing. Not a big deal but the LR rarely missed a shot.

I am a new user with only a few runs and perhaps my set-up was responsible for the dropped shots...time will tell. I wish Garmin would release updated software and app that functions like the LabRadar app did...well, maybe not EXACTLY like the LR app since it rarely stayed connected throughout a session. LOL I know Garmin is capable as I have a bit of experience with their marine and aviation nav systems and they are rock solid with great features.

Bottom line for me is it is a good device that has the potential to be a great device with very little tweaking. With its quirks I'll still take it over the LabRadar.

Had to laugh at myself the other day. After firing some .308's and 6.5 PRC's, I decided to do more trigger practice with my 22LR with a couple different cartridges. I started with the Feder Punch, which designed as a 29 gr. Personal Defense round with a listed MV of 1070 fps. So I set up my Xero for that lower velocity. 1st shot registered no velocity; apparently it missed it. 2nd shot it sensed something, but still no MV registered. After trying a couple more and not getting any velocity reading, it dawned on me that the velocities might be over the max setting of 1700 fps. When I switched the setting for over 1700 fps, the Xero pick up every shot, which averaged 1749 fps. The listed MV for this Federal Personal Defense was for a pistol rather than the likes of my 18" rifle. The Xero picked up the MV's with the other LR cartridges (SK Long Range Match and Lapua Midas) with the lower setting, so with all the guns and cartridges I fired that day, not a single missed shot. . .as long as I had the right setting.

They've been full, for months. And, vendors are having sales on new Lab Radar units, which was unheard of before the Garmin was released.

Did the same thing with my 17 hmr. My fault. Just updated to 3.21

I never start the app or enable bluetooth during a session, this assures the unit can't get an update mid-shooting or otherwise mess with it. I just use the unit standalone, then sync it to the app when I'm home. After that I view and edit titles, set cold/clean, etc, then export as csv for each session to Drive (dedicated folder).

Immediate want would be the ability to select all sessions and export OR delete as one job.

Long term wants would be:

1. the ability to preconfigure profiles in the app, then upload to the unit, then at the range be able to simply pull up those profiles as needed via the menu.
2. for the app to export the csv such that totals are formulas, not simply the totals for the session. If it's a formula you can manipulate the data (rows in the spreadsheet) and it will automatically recalculate the totals.

Earlier outings doing ladder testing I did one session per set, that's a lot of sessions across mult weapons but it allows me to instantly see the AV, SD, ES for each session/set. Last time out I grouped sets into fewer sessions, but then I had to do a lot of excluding/including to see just each set.

Regardless, I'm loving it.

I have not experienced any dropped shots, I simply use the tripod it came with sitting near the front rest and point it at the target. It's been as low as black powder rifle (another shooter at the range) to 4520 from my Swifts and lots of 2500-3100 stuff.

In version 3.21 they fixed this so the unit will not update during a session.

However, I would prefer they provide an option to turn off updates and provide a small update flag when an update is available.
