Anyone shoot 90g smk or 88eldm trying to figure out which bullet I want to shoot for long range
8 twist and 1000 yards and inReally need more info. How far is long range? What twist barrel?
I’m at 5000-7000ft where I shoot. Elevation is a factor in adequate twist rate and observed drop and drift values.Has anyone shot the 90g smk and got a true bc number I’ve read some say it is a lot lower than advertised and some say it’s higher

Older 90SMK were not pointed. New 90 SMK are pointed. There’s a lot of variables here. I think the 90 is a better bullet than the 88. Significantly more durable (doesn’t blow up in a barrel that can’t shoot 3 88s in a row without popping one) and it’s easy to tune and consistent.

What kind of velocity did you get with the 90 and 95 smkI have shot a lot of 88, 90 and 95s. The sierras are the most durable and tune a bit easier. As stated above get the .001 looser bore as it helped a lot. Keep the rapid fire and heat off the barrel for best life. I would say no matted what you do its not a matter of if you will blow bullets in flight but when. I used VV powder of the N series as it has a cooler burn rate and I didnt try to make my BRI into a 22250AI. I just ran moderate loadings with a proper throat length.
Its an impressive combo and you will enjoy it even beyond 1000 yards.
Sierras seemed the toughest, elds next and then bergers were the easiest to lose in flight.
I never saw much deviation on BC over advertised. Sierra has a stepped BC based on velocity and I added the different BC per velocity to my ballistic solver.
The problem with all of the combos is that to reach a fully stable bullet it pushes the limit of RPM with the heavies. Its a catch .224 (lol) situation.
Well I went and looked through my reloading recipe cards and I apparently threw them out since I no longer have or shoot that cartridge. I think I shot the 90s in the low to mid 3000fps range and the 95s in the mid 2900 area. I checked my ballistic app and deleted that as well. Purely memory but I think 3030 was the 90s and 2950ish for the 95s.What kind of velocity did you get with the 90 and 95 smk
I would guess the 8 twist is to slow for the 88 ELD. The plastic tip makes for a very long bullet. Requiring a faster twist. Is an 8 twist to fast for the 88 ELD? The 85.5 Berger shoot bug holes. The 88's shoot shoot gun patterns.
Suggestions? ED velocity numbers are good.
