22br question

Go over to snipershide.com. In the reloading section they have a 22br section with 14 pages of good info.

You might find my log useful:

My 0.100 freebore works great for all the 90 class bullets. With the long neck and being at an ideal capacity for the 4350 burn speed powders, you aren't working nearly as hard as you do with a 223 to get enough powder in the case to max out your speed.

Have you ever used the 90g smk

Yes. They are fantastic.

Does anyone shoot them if so how do they do compared to 88g eldm
I missed this question the first time through. The 90SMK is a way more durable bullet than the 88ELD, which is very important for heavy 22s. BC, wind and drop performance is largely the same for all of them in my experience. You don't gain much from one over the others. So far I have been getting outstanding accuracy from the 90SMK on what can be described as a barrel at the end of it's life for BR work. Let me know if you want pictures of anything. I have 80VLD, 85.5, 90SMK, 88 ELD, and 95SMK on hand at the moment, with data for all of them.

Seated to touch, this is what a 95 SMK, 90 SMK, 88 ELD, 85.5 LRHT, 80 VLD, and 80 SMK look like in a 22BR with 0.100" freebore. I threw in the 223 for reference on why you would need more freebore with that case to keep the bullets out of the donut.

IMHO, You would be better off starting off with the lightest bullet you can get your hands on, stuck into the lands, then as the throat wears (and it will  ) you can go heaver (longer) to keep close to the lands.
Long bullets, long throat , you find your OAL and YOUR load, next thing the throat wears, you run out of bullet to reach the lands.
Short throat, short bullets gives you time to adjust the OAL and still be accurate.

Starting out, picked up a new 6 BR barrel with a long throat, cut for heavies. ( )
In nothing flat, throat was too long, couldn't get the loads like I "use to".
Sold that barrel to someone that liked heavies.
From then on, I plan ahead.
From day 1, start with a short throat, go to heavier bullets as the throat wears.
Cheaper that a new barrel. ;)
