Which barrel?

Hi,
Im new to the forum but I have been lurking for a few weeks. I am getting a rifle built on a blueprinted Remington 700 action I have had hidden away for a few years. I am going with a 6.5 284. I will be using it as a combo Deer/ varmint/ target gun with 120-140 grain bullets. My gunsmith suggests Krieger, Obermeyer or Chanlynn barrels or can give me a Douglass XX for $100 less. Which barrel should I choose or should I buy another brand and supply it myself? Also which twist would you recommend?
Thanks

Krieger, Broughton, Hart, PacNor, Lilja are all making great barrels right now. Many people have had good luck with the Douglas. I don't have much feedback on the Obermeyer in 6mm. Chanlynn has produced some really excellent barrels.

Sorry I can't give much more guidance but based on 6.5-284 rifles we've featured, I don't think you'd go wrong with Krieger or Broughton. The Krieger may give a bit longer barrel life.

I love my Broughton 6.5 barrels, no hard data yet, but they seem to give a little better throat life than the Harts, and Kriegers I used to shoot. My present one has 700 rounds and throat has barely moved, app. .010"-.015"

Another vote for Krieger, Obermeyer, or Broughton. Either one will give you the accuracy you need. Go with a 1:8.5 twist.

I can recommend Steve Satern's cut rifle barrel. I shot my 6.5" twist .22BR for the first time last week and I could not believe how well it shot the 90gr. Sierra MK bullet! It cleaned up easily with TM Solution. I am looking forward to working with this barrel, and to try some of the 90gr. JLK VLD bullets that I had Jimmy Knox send over to me to test the barrel with!

Cordially,
Bob Blaine
