Where would you move to?

If you could move to any WARM spot in the country where would you move to? Texas, Arizona & New Mexico are my first thoughts. I'm in FL and looking to relocate in a couple of years. Most important is cheap land that I could build a range on, healthcare & conservative attitudes. Close to an established 1000 yard range a plus.

Texas. Except for some pockets of sanity, almost the entire east coast is going social democrat and anti-gun.

Ben Avery Range is in Arizona along with potentially the most gun-friendly state in the union (aside from Alaska). Definitely warm to say the least but a very dedicated bunch of competitive shooters there. That and business friendly.
I live in Oregon since I can no longer deal with extreme heat but competitive long range shooting winters in AZ are on my horizon.

Albuquerque, NM. would be an excellent place. However, if you enjoy lots of greenery stay away from there. Rainfall is sparse. Now some of the good stuff. It really doesn't get very cold and once out of civilization you can shoot for miles! There are (if memory is right) at least 2 1000 yard clubs. The city runs a very clean 200 yard range. The city also has a pistol and shotgun range. Cost of living runs the gamut, depending on where you want to live. We left because our daughter need help in Virginia. Sure do miss the WIDE OPEN spaces.

Go to Tx. We need more conservative votes there to help offset the growing dem. voting population. When we loose Tx. its over.

San Angelo TX
Has everything you need, and Tad Emert has a 1000 yd range about 25 miles west of town.

Just asked my Wife about San Angelo. She says it was one of the first places she looked up. I have relatives in Fort Worth, and she has relatives in Falfurrias. It's going on our list of places to stay at and explore.

Howdy !

Oklahoma. I gets plenty warm, here.
Reviewing 5 winters, we had one w/ only 1/2 of snow ( all on one day ), and another w/ no snow at al ( Tulsa area ). It's in the mid 90's, now.

Open carry here, and " stand your ground " laws also.

Tulsa is home to the U.S.' largest gun show, and has plenty others through the year.

1,000yd range just to the NW ( "Red Castle " ).

With regards,

San Angelo Tx. Really nice there. To the north, south and east some really good flat black land farming. To the west you get into rocks and flat topped hills and canyons.

Not far from plenty of good deer hunting, and you can shoot at them a long way off.

I don't ever remember San Angelo getting hit by a tornado or hurricane.

If you are a retired Jarhead, there is an Air Force base there for you.

Oklahoma and North Tx, tornados. Costal Tx, hurricanes.

I wouldn't move .
All my family lives no more the 20 miles away. Except the one in the army. I have lived in the same house for 53 years . And I have the same wife for 55 years. All the friend I have left live in 30 miles. The gulf where I fish is 12 miles. The gun range is 28 miles. My house is 48' above sea level So no water problems. My Friend and my gun smith is 22 miles . The private range i shoot 2 or more times a week is another friend . We have at his house has all the toys for shooting . WE have a new acoustic target system on the way. Our gun smith lives 1 mile away from the private range.
WE are talking about enclosing the shooting benches and putting air condition in.
I can't think of a better place to live. Larry

Nicely done!

Yeah! Plus one, for that! Moving is a BIG pain. If you must, as I have been looking for a "split deal" (summers there, winters here), it comes down to Texas, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho or Montana. I have a plan to go visit them all, and pick a spot. I want a range on my own property, near some good trout rivers, or good Gulf fishing. Josh.

No State Income Tax here in Texas. We have lots of heat in the Summer and some pretty bad storms in the Spring. The property values are going up all around the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It’s probably due to all the business relocating here. The Real Estate market is crazy now. But once you get outside of the 75 mile radius of the big cities property is somewhat affordable. I have a farm that I’m thinking about listing about 65 miles W/NW of Fort Worth. There I have a short 200 yd range, do a little hunting whitetails and hogs, and fish my tank. I could possibly extend the yardage of the range a little, if that was my main objective. Guess I’ll stay here in TX.

Well, looks like I'll be moving to Texas soon, north of Austin (Cedar Park-Leander area) checking out some ranges in the area and found several from 300-1K. Looks like Carthage and Huston are about 3 hrs away. Best of the West about 20 min and Leander's 300 yd range maybe 10. Looks promising!

That sounds good. I've wanted to visit that range
In Carthage for some time. It's in East TX, South of Longview.

Hi Bob, if you don't mind my asking, why do you want to leave Florida?
