When will Primers Be Available ?

Several years back I read a story about the Pathan warriors of Afghanistan during their fight with the Russians. They were largely equipped with copies of Enfield bolt action rifles and very few factory rounds of ammo. They developed a cottage industry reloading the rifle brass to keep their warriors in the field killing Russians. For powder they had thousands of pounds of celluloid movie film that was cut into small flakes and made a very usable rifle powder. The spent primers (Berdan) were pried from the cases, a small punch was used to flatten the firing pin indent and a priming mixture was made up using match heads as the main ingredient. I don't recall if or what the story said about projectiles.

Wow! When there's a will there's a way.

Hey mike , maybe you missed the $250 a brick prices lately . In a SHTF scenario they’re not just for loading .

Oh and we all could load some for sale as well . When there’s nothing to be found and truely no end in sight . Ammo will be worth it’s weight in gold .

It’s an investment as well . If the SHTF never comes and the new utopia sets in , great ! I’ve got plenty of ammo to shoot .
Or maybe he missed the $500.00 PLUS DOLLARS PLUS SHIPPING for a half brick of 205M's on Gunbroker about 3 month's ago. Two newbies bidding against each other until the biggest idiot won.

Lean manufacturing also leads to this issue. Only make what you can sell...then all of a sudden you can't make enough!

Funny thing to me is the guy that has 10k 223 and a couple ARs. How many rounds you gonna get off when a tank is rolling down your street? Or if you got to split how many rounds fit in your go bag? If you think your gonna survive up in the hills do you really want to drag all that lead around with you? If I had an AR I think a couple loaded 30 rounders would be more than enough. If I had a AR that is. Lost mine in a boating accident.

Will that Tank be American made?

Newly manufactured CCI and Federal primers have popped up on Midway in the past few months. They come and go extremely fast... but it tells me the manufacturers are making them... and they'll be available as someone said, between now and then.

I read on a different forum that a member was talking to a rep about the production;
They can produce a million a day unfortunately they’re back ordered one Billion primers.
You can do the Math I’m to slow

If President Trump is elected I am going to say 2 years. If Biden is declared by electoral college not news media than no I can not predict an end in sight. Again news media has no power to declare a winner not now or even latter. Fear in the people kills out hobby. People with money hoard and over consume like they always do with everything from medicine to drugs to guns to mistresses. The average person both on the right, the middle and left are buying up any guns they can get but to drive sales guns tores need ammo so they are hoarding too!

Keep your finger on the trigger. They pop up here and there. Check your obscure local gun stores or Simmons if you have one close. They may have some. Simmons limits you to 2k around here when they get them in. It’s hot or miss.

No way. That about 3 years!
It takes a million million to get one Billion, so a tad more than 3 years.
IMO the problem is more in line with doomsday hoarding than regular folks just reloading for the near future.
Someone smarter than me can weigh in of course.

I'd bet some of that billion back order is government contracts or for manufacturers of said contracts along with other manufactures which are 10yr contracts . My thinking is yes they have a back order of 1 billion but not all of them are expected to be delivered this year or next .

My $.02 , as long as Biden wins and the conservatives don't go all postal . Primers will be back in moderation by end of 2021 . I don't see any federal legislation on ammo or components so that should ease some minds . Gun sales on the other hand will stay big for as long as Biden is president .

If trump "RIPS" victory from Biden and the hard left . We may never see primers or powder available for years . The civil unrest will make delivery of many products not just firearms related items unsafe to deliver in many areas of the country . So they simply will not be available to buy online or at local gun stores along with many other daily essential items .

Really? One million squared is one billion? That must be some special Joe Biden economic math. For the rest of us, one thousand million is same as one billion, so like smoketheclay said, a little over 3 years. [Hint: 1x10^3 X 1x10^6 = 1x10^9].

I'm not too worried, I'll be 77 at the end of the month and Joe will be coming for the guns....... Go to all the matches you can because the next one maybe your last..... jim

Just my non scientific $0.02. Have been aware of shortages since the Clinton years and beyond. To me levels of shortages are unlike any thing seen before. Checked with local dealers and friends, did number of interweb searches and the levels of "sold out" at all parts of the reloading component list is almost complete and shocking to me. I have no idea when the current situation will end if ever. Seems to me with each passing shortage the depth of the shortages increases.
Telling people not to do something makes them want to do it all the more. Ten years ago when I retired, I started to shoot a lot more, a couple times a week (rifles, pistols, and shotguns). Always had a group of shooters with me. Over the years most lost interest, but for me and a small group of friends we had the ranges to ourselves. Went to the range last Monday morning and was joined by four other shooters. They were not deer hunters checking their rifles. There is plenty of alcohol, cigarettes, and birth control products available. People you have other options, leave me in peace. Just kidding.
