Just from pictures of the scale what is the easiest way to tell if it is hydraulic dampened?Imagine the rock solid reliability of a beam scale and the reading speed of a digital. The tuned, green bodied, oil dampened Redding #1 scale delivers this! Single kernel responsiveness and it dampens out in 4 seconds. It is what I use and I could use any of them.

Yep and a lot has changed in the world of scales in the last 12 years for most, but I still use what I used 12 years ago lolGuys come on 12 year old post, the OP hasn't been on AC in 4years.
You really need to see a top view pic. to see the reservoir.Just from pictures of the scale what is the easiest way to tell if it is hydraulic dampened?
Great scales!I am going to stick with my Lyman M5 and Ohaus 10-0-05 scales. Yes, that is plural. I have backups, and I also have backups for my backups so I never have to worry about having to buy or use a digital scale, except for maybe getting a digital scale to weigh cases.

If we’re talking any of the brown bodied #1s or any of the undampened models, I would wholeheartedly agree. When I dream of the ideal powder scale ,Redding #1 is never in my dream.
I don't even care for the Redding No. 2 that much. There is nothing wrong with it and it is a perfectly fine scale. I have one. I just find my M5 and 10-0-5 scales easier to level and use. The No. 2 level adjuster is a bit harder to get to and the No. 2 is lighter, too light, I think, unless you customize it with weight. When I dream of the ideal powder scale ,Redding #1 is never in my dream.
The most sensitive and accurate scale I’ve owned was a D-5 Scotty tuned and sent my way, I sold that scale and several others out of my collection leaving only a M-5 out in the reloading shack and my trusty 10-10. My problem is neck strain these days so I’m afraid my beam scale days are in the rear view mirror.I don't even care for the Redding No. 2 that much.
