There is no valid reason except collecting for buying a 30.06. 6.5 prc outperforms 30.06 in every aspect and prpduces less recoil.

So I'm going to assume that you're under 40 years old. You've never had to kill anything that could possibly eat you, stands 10 or 12 ft tall and is pissed off. The old useless 06 can be loaded with 110 grain bullets up to 240 grain bullets. Somewhere in there it'll leave that 6.5 PRC in the dust. When you come right down to it the 6.5 PRC is another useless cartridge because there's already a 6.5/284. The 75 to 100 ft a second that you gain with the almighty PRC doesn't mean that much, unless you're a fan boy. From what I've read on this 15-year-old thread no one's concerned about killing paper.

IMHO, 6.5-284 eats the 6.5 PRC for lunch, and all from a standard bolt face. 140 Berger vldh @ 3050 fps.

Wow you must have forgot this thread is about "killing shit" and you think the 6.5 needsmore has more shit than a 06! You cant even read charts. You obviously have never killed much. Just like when you start out with a 45/70 the bullet without expansion is almost twice as big as a 6.5. 30 cal. same way you simply starting out bigger but I realize there is no sense in talking or explaining to a fanboy. By the way just like a lot of people here I've hunted and killed big game with with everything from a 243 win., 257 roberts, 7/57, 30/06, 44 mag 25/35 to a 45/70, 300 win mag. How did I bring another varible, you mentioned the PRC, not me.
All I stated is that your PRC would get whupt by a 6.5-284 " using less powder" mind you on the same standard bolt face as the 06'.
And that the 6.5 PRC isn't launching a 185gr bullet at 2850, my 25" 06' does, and has the energy and accuracy to cleanly kill @600.
But since your on a magnum latest greatest kick I get it....
I lucked into a 280ai last year that pushing into 7mag territory, still a standard bolt face and based off the 06' case.

The 6.5 PRC and .270 WSM, launching 140 Bergers at, 3,100 and 3,200 FPS, will Kill Elk out to, 700- 800 Yards.
Check the Velocity of, your Bullets at,.. THOSE, Ranges !
BOTH Cart's,.. ARE Superior to, the 06 at, the,.. Longer,. Distances !

So run your calculator for a 155gr .30 caliber bullet clocking 3050 and get back to me. Lmfao

Here's the deal, just because a marketing guy and a balistiicion got together to reinvent the wheel doesn't make a NEW cartridge any better than what we already have.
So you see my Creedmoor isn't any more effective than my wife's 260.

In the old Days ( Mid 1960's to,1970's ) I ran, 150 gr Bullets, W/ H-4895 @ 2,900 FPS, in the 06, then Bought a .270 Weatherby Mk-V, L-H, 24" bbl. and was getting 3,067 FPS with, 150 gr Hornady's,.. SO there WAS, a Difference !
My .270 WSM gets 3,175 ave FPS, W/ 140's that are, STILL going OVER, 2,000 FPS at, 800 Yards !
The 6.5 PRC is, Very Close to, the .270 WSM but WITH,.. Better / Higher, Bullet,.. BC's
Compare, the 06 150 gr. Loads to, 140 gr. Berger, Elite Hunters ( at, 3,100 FPS ) at,.. 750-800 yards !
The 6.5 PRC is, POPULAR for, a Reason !

EVERY cartridge developed after the 30 '06 was compared TO the 30 '06 ( just as you did).

It is the cartridge by which all others are judged.
