There’s been an onslaught of new cartridges the past few years, seems like just about every caliber has multiple new cartridges being constantly introduced. The reality is there are plenty of existing cartridges to cover just about any need a guy can dream up, some newer and some decades old if not older. The most recent seem to be catering much more to the Reloader allowing a guy to be able to seat high BC bullets and have the OAL be able to fit in whatever bottom metal you want.

Do we need more new cartridges, we definitely don’t need more but it is fun to get new cartridges and watch them get tweaked by the wildcatters which just gives all us more brass options, more excuses for another build and more fun if your into the new stuff. If you’re perfectly happy with the older stuff that’s fine too.

As far as what’s the next new great cartridge to come on the scene is gonna be, I have no idea. Hornady has had the most success with the new stuff which translates to they know how to launch and market new cartridges better than anyone. There’s been quite a few good ones that had a short shelf life due to poor marketing or next to no marketing, Saum and 260 REM come to mind even though the Saum has clawed its way back, it certainly has a loyal fan club.

Is a 6.5 creed superior to a 6.5x55, not in my opinion but it’s more about want than need. Its all good fun!

Its a way to make money. Think McDonald's...there are some staples but it changes up very frequently. The herd of sheep will always try something new.

I hope to see some development for .20 and .17. It is probably a simple formula, more twist, heavier projectiles, moderate barrel life, backed by hornady. Maybe something based on the eld-vt.

My guess is a newly rebranded subsonic semi rimmed 45-70. A 12.7 blackout, because we all know bigger is better. Probably spec it out with 4 tpi rifling

It's a 284 Winchester necked to 7mm.

I think it will work well for F Class!

All new parent case: the 6.5x68 Shuler. Modern design from 1938/39 in Germany. Just do an update; reduce taper, shorten the neck, and do a 35-degree shoulder.
I took this case 35 years ago, did the above, and necked it to 25 caliber. 110gr Fowler spitzer BT's at 3800+ fps. Killed my first Rockchucks at over 1000 yards with the first shot. Seventeen of them that summer. Look up the 257 Banshee cartridge if you have a minute.

I’m still playing catch up on calibers that I was interested in but didn’t have the time or resources to play with them. The 7-08 became my go to deer rifle as soon as Remington made it SAMMI. I had a 284 Model 88 that I bought new in a backwoods HW store in upstate NY. If the 88 would have had a decent trigger, I would probably still have it. Now I have a 284 F-Open rifle that I really like shooting. It demonstrates the true potential of the cartridge. Too soon old and too late smart. Too bad Winchester didn’t have the Hornady spin machine to push the cartridge to the writers.
I currently have two 6.5 CM’s in the cabinet and I’ve had a couple others, including a Tubb 2000. My opinion is that it met the original design intent well. But what it did do was convince Hornady that they had a better formula for marketing than other manufacturers.
The 280 Remington was another cartridge that captured my interest. I had a number of those in hunting rifles but now have a 280AI that I wish I would have had decades ago. I also have a 6BR rifle that I am enjoying and a 6.5x47 barrel ready to screw into a BRMXD to enjoy.
How could we get Hornady to promote the 7x61 S&H? There are a lot of great existing cartridges to “discover”.
