Whats the craziest thing you have ever heard some one about a gun?

I don't think its a huntable population. I am pretty sure Va doesn't even sale tags.
That may be true, but just sayin' - there are elk in VA.

To be fair, the guy might have assumed you were looking for a rifle to take on a hunt out west, probably he gets a lot of such customers, especially around DC.

PS I see you're down near the toe of VA. Probably huntable elk not that far from you in NC and WV where they do hunt them.

One of my best friends is an economist (PhD) for the Gummint in DC, a big chief there. He's owned guns but is not a "gun guy". I showed him one of my "wallet" targets shot at 200 yards with a 223, five shots into one ragged hole. "But, you missed the target." I tried to explain the bullseye was only my aim point, I wanted the bullets to strike higher, so as to not obscure the aim point. All I cared about was the group size. He absolutely did not get it. "Well, what good is it if you miss what you're aiming at?" Try as I might, from all angles, I had to give up. He wasn't buying. Intelligence is not smarts.

I have to say that I probably done one of dumb things
After deer hunting season my brother and I stood a binder tongue up he shot it with
3030 the bullet just splattered I took my 300 mashburn When I squeeze trigger I hit the ground Blood was poring down my face .
Put my finger up and I had a hole in my head . Start feeling around and no exit hole . My hat had o hole in it about the size of a dime . The bullet went through and the jacket came back .
My aunt call my mother who was working and told her Larry had. Shot him self but he was ok. Funny but true .
I never have shot steel or will I ever if it is close .

I had a Bat action sent to the same gun shop for transfer and he said "thats the first bolt i ever saw with a serial number, I thought only lowers had them" i tried to show him it was like the action on a normal bolt rifle, but he wasnt getting it.
Ha!
A gun shop thought my panda was a semi auto. I had to put the bolt in to show them it wasn't.

I was wounded slightly on the forehead by splash off a steel plate about 30 yards away. I was standing behind the guy shooting a 9mm pistol at it. You and I are both, technically speaking, gunshot victims. So we got that going for us ... which is nice.

You and Larry sound like real hardheads. You both survived a gunshot to the head..technically. :)

A couple years ago my son and I were shooting at a local public range when a gentleman came in and sat down at the bench next to us. He proceeded to open his gun case and pull out a beautiful vintage Weatherby Mark 5. He fired 3 or 4 shots and began complaining that it just wasn't shooting like it used to. He asked me to look at it to see if I could see anything wrong. When I examined the gun I noticed it was chambered in 300 Weatherby Magnum. The box of ammo on the bench was 300 Win Mag. time to leave the range!!

If he ever comes back 300wm mag in a 300 Weatherby is fine. Headspace off the belt. Bssically the same as fireforming any ackley round

Their in just 3 countys, I live next to one of them.
We can kill'em in deer season and hunt'em just like deer.
Have to take them to a special check station. Can't check one on the puter or phone like we do deer.

Kermit

Not in the county's they were stocked in...

I was recently in a chain sporting goods store and overheard a salesman telling his customer that he should never load a magazine over half its capacity for fear of damaging the spring.

Funny but not that crazy, I'll throw my friend under the bus. He's one of my oldest and best friends but he's a lawyer and spends way too much time in his office. I take him shooting as much as he can go, to get him outdoors. Bolt guns mostly. An AR once and a while, for kicks. He's a work in progress. One day he calls me to tell me his uncle gave him a nice lever action rifle. "Let's go shooting on Saturday, bring the ammo." I ask him what caliber and he says it's a 22. On Saturday, I load up my stuff and meet him at the range. I start setting up and drop a box of 22s on his bench. Not wanting to bruise his ego, I don't hover. We go hot and I fire off a couple rounds. I notice he's "having trouble" so I go over to see what's up. He's pushing 22s in the side gate of a nice old Winchester 30-30. He gets a lesson on lever actions and how the caliber is stamped on the side of the barrel, while I extract about 30 22s from his gun. He shoots one of my guns, to save the day, and agree to meet up the next day with the right ammo. Next day on the bench, he pulls the hammer back on his first round with his new gun and pulls the trigger. "Click" Nothing. Wait. Bad primer? Eject, reload, click! I pull the shell and look at both misfires. No dent! Off to the gunsmith. Broken firing pin.:eek::eek::eek:

Well, this post certainly answers a few questions I've had.

I was recently in a chain sporting goods store and overheard a salesman telling his customer that he should never load a magazine over half its capacity for fear of damaging the spring.

This one is semi true. In AFG we would load the mags to about 25 rds instead of thirty to not compress the springs. We didn't shoot as much as you would think over there. So, there would be a couple of months where the mags were packed and sitting on our kit not getting used. You would see it more on the older mags. They wouldn't feed after a while. The magpuls and new gen mags with the orange follower were pretty solid. But I agree not half a mag that's just silly. Also, loading a full mag is obviously fine too, as long as it doesn't sit for months or years.

No elk season in NC yet.

Decades ago when I took a Sig Arms armorers course, they said with the new metals in the spring, that is no longer a concern. Also, a friend found a few 45 acp mags that his dad brought back from WW2 that were fully loaded. They functioned fine.
