What would you build on a spare Rem 30-06 action for moose

My best friend has a Remington 700 cdl sf limited 30-06 that he uses as a back up for moose. He shot my custom this weekend and now wants to get a build started. I have a few ideas i like but wondering what you would do with a spare action?

9.3x62!! It is just a re barrel, no feeding work. It works well on Cape Buff and would work great on moose. 320 grains at 2100-2200, 286 grains at 2400. Both are real killers. The 320's have outstanding penetration. The actual effect on large game is just like getting hit with a 375 H&H. Hornady has factory ammo and brass and Norma also has brass. A 35 Whelen would be my second choice.

I would think it is not so much the cartridge but the bullet you choose. You have a lot of choices with the long action 700. Matt

I'll be danged if I'd shoot anything with that old '06 case! That dude has been wore out now for 110 years! I can't get mine to shoot any better than 6" groups from 1000 yards!

Keep the 700 as is for a back up or sell it as it is. The action is not a good design and not worth spending money or time on it..

In the following order?:
30-06 but rebarrel and set up for the Nosler 200 grain partition.
9.3x64
35 Whelen (standard NOT improved)

The 338-06 would be a choice but only with the 200 or 225 grain bullets. The 06 case can't push the 250s fast enough to expand.

A custom build is fine, but there really isn't much wrong with the standard 30-06.
